The Perfect Movie Scene

Pick something you think just works perfectly. Sometimes a crap movie has a great scene that just works, sometimes a great movie has one scene that really stands out.

I just watched The Third Man again (maybe my favourite movie) and this is just perfect:

If one of those dots stopped moving forever

But, yeah- an action scene, some comedy. Just whatever you think is the best single scene you've ever, erm, seen, or at least comes close.

The Third Man is one of my all time favorites too.

Here's cinematic perfection from Heat.

Be sure to watch it in full screen. If you have surround sound, make sure you use it. The sound editing was way ahead of it's time.

Ha- blocked- Is it the chase scene, the conversation between DeNiro and Pacino, or the Pacino interrogation scene? All of those are amazing. Or something else?

The entire bank heist. From the beginning when all three walk into the bank with that great soundtrack to the end, when Pacino's character hesitates to relax his shoulder, exhales, and then pops Sizemore with a single shot to the forehead.

The tension of the shootout is certainly heightened by having had that face to face in the diner first. That confrontation was perfectly written, blocked, shot, acted, everything, as well.

Honestly- on that last one, and I really love Apocalypse Now, it really isn't great. The shots are great, but it tells where it should let the shots show. I didn't need the voiceover. The speech is good, but Brando is better.

It's a great movie, and there are arguments that you can just keep adding stuff and it's a better experience, but the ending was always the weakest part for me.

Maybe that's what they were aiming for and that's why you chose it. I don't know.

Primer - A Three-Second Lead on the World

Also, love The Third Man. Welles absolutely steals that film.

Paprika Opening Credits

I can never get people to watch Satoshi Kon's movies because they're Japanese anime. This one isn't even his best- check out Millennium Actress, but the opening to Paprika is just perfect. Turn the volume up.

Screamers 3.... an utterly unwatchable movie except for:

Peter wellers picks up a rock.

The rock sprouts legs.

He throws it and says: "If you're gonna be a rock, be a rock. Don't be a bug! "

It is my favorite random useless line of any movie Ive ever seen.

I was just thinking about how bad I am at remembering good scenes off the top of the head. The first one that comes to mind is the end of Blade Runner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_saUN4j7Gw

Also, My favorite scene in Ace Ventura

Others:
Opening scene of A Touch of Evil
Final scene of Tokyo Sonata

Old Boy "reveal" scene. I suggest the entire movie if you haven't seen it. These will ruin everything for you.
