I viewed
Hunger Games yesterday. And Ill try to do some stars...
Out of 5 stars
Story/Plot
* * * | I enjoy fantasy and science fiction. That being said I rarely enjoy a movie in this Genre. They seem to always be either boring or poorly made. The plot in this movie is an enjoyable Idea, and I enjoyed the storyline. It really just lacked something. I am not a real great movie critic so I am not sure what it misses. But I do think that at times the movie dragged and the premise had a few flaws that I could not look past-- such as if you lived in a province and one of your kids would be selected each yea wouldnt you be devoting part of their time every day in exercise and militant arts?
Acting
* * * * They sold me. Good young actors. Woody Harrelson was just woody. The guy is not an actor but a personality. He played his same ole personality to the tee here. Some characters really were not developed well.
Music
* * Music could have really pushed this movie over average for me. There was nothing really to speak of here.
Overall
* * * This is a movie I could have waited to see on netflix but it was not so bad that I regret the money and time spent. The ending was extremely anti-climatic or satisfying as well. Like so many movies in this Genre I look at it and think It could have been so much more.
-----------------------
Please review movies, I love them and enjoy reading about them and perspectives of said movie.
I will try to do a more detailed review of some others tomorrow.
If someone has seen John Carter please please review it. I grew up on Burroughs books and he is one of the guys that modern writers still copy characters and aspects of. I have not seen the movie yet

The Usual Suspects *
This movie was terrible. It turns out that Keyser Soze was the bad guy the whole time.

21 Jump Street
9/10
If you have a sense of humor, you'll like this.
If you went to high school in the 90s to 2000s you'll like this.
If you enjoyed the original 21 Jump Street in the 80s (? it's a bit before my time), you'll like this.
If you like action movies, you'll like this.
If you don't like teenagers, you might not like this.
Ridiculously funny, I wasn't expecting much out of it, but I could not stop laughing.

Pearl Harbor ******
This movie is so good it gets six stars, not five. It was awesome! There was a very tender and heart breaking romance and then lots of action and explosions and heroism. The sixth star is for how good Ben Affleck is at acting.

Not a 2012 movie. Take your trolling elsewhere.

Movies in theatres now (in order from best to worst) that I have seen:
The Raid: Redemption
Unless you are a dyslexic and can't read subtitles - go see this f'ing movie. Not only the best Kung Fu Movie I have seen in a long time, but also the best Action movie I have seen in a long time. (technically released before 2012, but I am talking NA box office)
Secret World of Arriety
Apparently it's still in theatres, but you can probably catch it on DVD. A good, slow family film for a lazy day. (technically released before 2012, but I am talking NA box office)
John Carter
Underperformer of the year. Disney spent 400 million making it, but only made 200 million back. I want this to succeed because I love the books, and I want the rest of them to be made (I already got ripped off with The Last Airbender).
21 Jump Street
I agree with whitestazn, it was hilarious. Not a good action movie though, the action served mainly to serve up punch lines (a la Roger Moore as 007).
Hunger Games
Good movie.
Titanic
I like the movie. I love reading the tweets about kids who thought it was made up.
Woman in Black
A fun little movie. See it with kids who will likely be scared and scream and you will have an amazing time.
Mirror Mirror
Better than expected; you won't regret seeing it, but there are so many better choices out there right now.
The Lorax
Not terrible, but not great. Worse than Mirror Mirror (I say this as a man too, not a little girl which is the target audience).
Wrath of the Titans
I fell asleep. It sucked. Didn't even have Bubo in it.

Wait, never mind, I actually saw Wrath of the Titans.
0/10...awful, shit movie. Didn't watch Clash of the Titans (I saw the original, not the remake) but seriously...I can't believe they spent money making this movie.

Chronicle -- 8/10
It wasn't the normal "Superhero powers save the day and fight the villian!"
It was a man v self/man v society premise with a darker, more tragedy ending (which are often the movies I kind of like).

This topic makes me sad. I have no girlfriend and the last time I went to the movies I took my nephews to watch some shitty cartoons.

If you noticed the richer districts like 1 and 2 did have schools like that even though in the books it was technically supposed to be illegal. The lower districts like 12. It was a day to day survival they didn't have the money or resources to training them to fight. All of their effort was forced into staying alive. I will also say that some of the plot points they couldn't cover in this one were covered in the second book.
Acting * * * * They sold me. Good young actors. Woody Harrelson was just woody. The guy is not an actor but a personality. He played his same ole personality to the tee here. Some characters really were not developed well.
I was pleased with the acting especially considering it was mostly young and inexperienced actors and considering that the book had been all from Katniss' viewpoint, it doesn't surprise me that maybe they weren't able to fully develop some of the personalities. In book 2 you should see Haymitch develop a little bit better.

Overall I'd give it a 4.2 out of 5. I think they did a decent job of intermixing some of the plot in here and there and why these were important. To really fully get what was going on you do have to be playing close attention which is the only reason I don't rank it higher as I know some people are going to miss some of the subtler points. My personal feelings is more of a 4.7 out of 5.

If they did, it wasn't because you were going to the movies by yourself. People are too self-absorbed to give a shit about you. That's a life pro-tip.

Well, I'm going to keep expressing my opinion in this thread that is soliciting opinions, no matter how atrocious anyone finds them.

I remember commenting with my friends when we saw someone going to the movies by himself, I assumed the same happened to me

Ok we get it, you think you know too much about movies, more than us and refuse to participate in the thread seriously until someone puts you in the spot and then you enlighten us with your genius.

Out of five stars
Pee Wee's Big Adventure *
This movie is terrible. It's a very sad story about a boy named Francis and how his birthday is ruined by some guy named Pee Wee who won't sell him a bicycle.

Scene at the Alamo *****
The entire point of the Alamo was to make that scene.
