If slavery was allowed would you want a slave? Would you prefer a human or a wookie slave? How much would you pay for a slave? And what would you use your slave for?

I would have a slave to take my turns when I missed them

I kinda would like a slave! Just imagine not having to cook, clean or wash. A wookie slave would be tempting as he could also serve as your bodyguard. But wookies can get pretty pissed and I wouldn't want him to rip my arms off. He'd probably not be very good at cooking or cleaning either. Also I don't know how much I'd be able to push him around, so on second thought I'd just go with a young feeble female human !

Might be safer to stage an event where a wookie thought it was in danger of losing it's freedom, and pre-position yourself to act as the savior, and have the wookie owe you a life debt.

I made my wookie join the Tea Party and stand outside behind a Ron Paul sign in the middle of winter and RaR at passing cars and pedestrians.

I see what you mean with the food issue, but there's no way I'm cleaning up after him! He'll get to vacuum and unclogg the toilet himself. As for the dog. Well he's a wookie, the dog should know better than to mess with him.

Therefore my answer is yes. I would have a massive tobacco plantation with one slave house filled with 50+ of Africa's finest. This all being if I weren't asian and lived in the 1800s south.

Things come and go son. Slavery isn't anything unique for 18:th and 19:th century. The ancient greeks had slaves, so did the ancient egyptians a couple of thousand years earlier. And of course a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, slavery was pretty common .
