f*ck, i was just going to make a thread about this.

Anyway, for people who don't know, he's trying to break the records for highest freefall (120,000 feet I think) and fastest freefall (past Mach 1). Both these records were set by Kittinger back in 1960.

I plan on masturbating during the jump...hopefully when I climax, the guy will have survived!

he's trying to break the sound barrier via falling? isn't there a terminal velocity in play somewhere?

This is where the extra energy from the millions of people that will be masturbating during the jump comes in. It's pure physics.

I'm watching. I'm finding it much more fascinating than I expected.

I am guessing the big red "T" is the time for the jump? Approximately 12 minutes now.

Yeah, that's the plan. I don't know the details but perhaps him taking an aerodynamic shape and the rarefied atmosphere up there might help.

Kittinger apparently got to 988 km/h which is pretty damn close. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Excelsior

true... less atmosphere = less drag so at damn near no atmosphere he could get going pretty damn fast

It is only supposed to take him 30 seconds to reach mach 1.

What/where is the limit of human endurance, hope we don't find out live........I would assume there is a tape delay in case something goes wrong?

Hmm, dunno, good question.
If they don't have a delay I guess 7 mil people would see him die live.

He didn't wait long enough to get the longest freefall record.

Scaredy cat ...

Did you see his pecker get burned off during rear entry? OMG!

I suspect he was intentionally leaving a record for the guy who helped him out.

I can't believe how old he is. 43, astonishing.

Yeah, shouldn't be difficult to set up for a desperate person that just can 't take it anymore.

There was a 20 second tape delay.

He also got going a lot faster than the previous record, so perhaps he ran out of safe distance sooner than expected.

This was the coolest thing to occur in the past 5 years. It's far more interesting than the presidential elections. We need more of this, and less of mittens.

We just need more of this, period. My cadets are finally excited to talk about something that has to do with science again! WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!

Couldn't agree more. It sucks that our politicians stand directly in the path of progress:

What if Mittens made a jump like that?

He'd get my vote.
