The Daily Mirror is a traditionally left leaning supporter of the Labour party in Britain,in tabloid form.I reckon it is a reputable source compared to the other British tabloids,which isn't saying a lot.Check out publications such as the Guardian,the Independent or the Times for serious journalism,all are online.Stories like this are given a bit of serious publicity but soon become next weeks fish and chips wrappers,so no the current Conservative government won't be losing any sleep over it..

Bit difficult to say on this, as the only sources I could find were The Mirror and the Daily Mail. Neither are bastions of reliability.

I did find this, and I can't vouch for its reliability at all for or against, although it seems to be a magazine for soldiers:

Which provides a similar story, but suggests that the Mirror exaggerated (the comment at the bottom is worth a look).

From what I've heard the US has handed out prison sentences for those in black ops, (but the US pays essentially buys their loyalty anyway).
