Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying Obama can't campaign based on his record? Because if his record is something to be proud of, he should never stop talking about the past four years and how he can continue to do that for "four more years." In that case I doubt you'd be calling it a "tired gimmick." However if you're only calling it a "tired gimmick" because the GOP machine is spewing that rhetoric, then it only proves your own bias rather than proving that the line is a gimmick.
