Final Doom Help Plz

Hey, a question for those more computer savvy users:

I have this old copy of Final Doom that I could have sworn I played on this computer (XP) but now it won't play properly. All I get is a little fuzzy screen in the upper left that's all pixelated and ugly. I'm pretty sure I didn't need dosbox for this game in the past since I've only started using dosbox recently and the doom game is like a year old. Anyone have any ideas?

They seem to know more than me. I know that I can play games like AOE and Star Wars Battlegrounds on XP and Win7, but games like Doom and Hero's Quest and King's Quest have required a DOS Box for me.

Playing unmodded doom is like building a fire from scratch. It's such an ancient human skill, I see no reason to keep the knowledge.

Damn.
I found the game in a used video game store like a year ago and thought it was a lot of fun. Today I was cleaning and found the game covered in dust. I've now got the itch.
