Freedom is only for those that have the guts to defend it
Ted Cruz Comes Out Guns Blazing on ‘Unconstitutional’ Gun Control Proposals
Newly minted Texas Senator Ted Cruz has barely been in office for a weekend, and has already displayed his characteristic capacity for rhetorical sharpness combined with constitutionalism. Appearing on Fox News Sunday today, Senator Cruz was asked about gun control proposals being offered in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut shooting, and whether he could support any of them. Cruz’s reply, while empathetic to the victims, was quite firm.
“The reason we’re discussing this is because of the tragedy in Newtown. And every parent – my wife and I, we’ve got two little girls, age 4 and age 2 – every parent was horrified by what happened there. To see twenty children, six adults senselessly murdered, it takes your breath away,” Cruz began, before pivoting to the political question.
“But within minutes,” Cruz continued, “we saw politicians run out and try to exploit this tragedy, try to push their political agenda of gun control. I do not support their gun control agenda for two reasons: Number one, it’s unconstitutional.”
When the host pressed Cruz on whether there was anything he could support, Cruz said he supported using measures to update the Federal database of who was ineligible to own a firearm. However, he took special aim at a proposal by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) to create a national registry of who owns guns, saying the Federal government had no business keeping a list of who chooses to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Cruz’s constitutional critique is a fairly common talking point among Republican legislators. However, coming from Cruz, it may carry additional weight, as the former Texas Solicitor General has won multiple cases arguing before the Supreme Court itself, and clerked for former Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

I don't have any suggestions for you or Britain. I was actually thinking of it more as a way to listen to Brits describe how it happened to them and what the results are, and how it got that way...

Interesting video. Obviously a little biased, but interesting. I found myself wondering what are the punishments for being caught owning a firearm if they are illegal? Considering that civilians are basically helpless against a gun if they themselves don't have access to one, it seems like the punishment aught to be very severe. The fox hunting thing is sad I'll have to say. From what I understand they don't even shoot the foxes anymore and it's really an interesting and elegant tradition imho.

Some Brits would agree with the people on the video, others not,it's up for debate,as all regulation ought to be in a functioning democracy..

Yeah I really miss chasing a terrified wild animal across miles of countryside, sometimes straying onto private property where children live,to eventually corner it and see the exhausted prey torn to pieces by a savage pack of dogs, witnessed by whoever happens to be around, young or old,animal-lover or not, regardless of the distress it causes.Such an elegant tradition....for barbarians.

I was referring to the equestrian side of it and the collaboration of man and animal towards a time honored goal. I don't see what's wrong with missing the majestic aspects of a "barbaric" tradition.

Because they are in certain areas of the US&A.
Not to say there isn't certain parts of Canada and England I wouldn't prefer to have a side arm or better yet a team of armed personel. Particularly if it was between dusk and dawn.

For defense. We have a culture problem here, and the breakdown of our traditional family unit isn't helping either, and sometimes crazy people do crazy things.

Lucky he didn't have one of the millions of guns that float around over there when he decided to go mental like that
And is this the same PS that repeatedly declared opinions invalid in gun control debates because they weren't American? What prompted the change of mind?

yet it's not luck if you are prepared to defend yourself, it's smart.
What did I change my mind on?

I really enjoyed the video; only an American channel with a biased agenda could draw such wild conclusions from a few toffs' opinions. That the video started with something completely unrelated to guns or gun crime, something which the majority of the UK wanted to ban (democracy in action there) is the best part of it all. And I can say all of this without even having to give an opinion on guns or bans etc.

So let me get this straight... in your mind that video would have been better if it ended with that crackhead being shot to death?

To the average human being; do you really think a person carrying a gun is wishing to use it on someone? To kill someone? Guns are used for self defense; a last resort. I carry a gun for a living and I can tell you that I HOPE I never have to use it; although I will if needed. As I said before, It all comes down to training. Most people that possess concealed weapon permits and are able to carry a gun, don't train often if at all. This is the problem. I think people that wish to carry a concealed weapon should have to qualify at a minimum annually; if they can't qualify, they cannot carry; simple as that. Police Officers in the USA and I assume in most countries, qualify quarterly. In a situation that presents deadly force, your training will kick in a d hopefully, the right decisions are made.

The Hooray Henry's in the video might be some Americans stereotypical view of Brits but in reality they represent a very small portion of British society as a whole. But on a positive note,at least some Americans have noticed there are other countries out there, and this is progress.

That's a very good point.
I had the (mis?)fortune to watch Piers Morgan on CNN last night arguing with some anti-semite conspiracy nut. Now I can't stand Piers Morgan, and it was clearly a delibrate part of his agenda to get such a rabid moron on to 'argue' with him, but it did bring up a good point. If people like Alex Jones are allowed to own guns, Lord help us all!

This quote might represent some Brit's stereotypical view of Americans.
