I really didn't see the humor in his statements; however, I did find the report (if that's what you call this nowadays) interesting that Canada had a larger role than they are given credit for. Although I haven't seen the movie "Argo", I can definitely see it being geared towards an American audience. Of course, making the movie more Americanized is a money grab...if the public knew that Canadians had more to do with the rescue mission than the Americans...how many Americans would go see that movie?

At least we don't see Audie Murphy winning the war single handed anymore...but Hollywood will always distort history to cater to the large under educated domestic market.

The other day I was watching the Big Lebowski, and I couldn't believe that New York wasn't mentioned at all.

In The Great Escape, they felt it necessary to make half the lead roles American, even though no Americans took part in the real-life event.

In U-571, an entirely-British exploit is recast as an American exploit. To round out the international insults, the Germans are played as ludicrous caricatures of themselves, and the title is taken from a U-boat that was sunk by the Australians.

Today we have The Impossible, where although the nationality of the family is never explicitly stated, they seem basically American, although the story is based on a Spanish family.

Can you imagine a Vietnam war movie where the Australian forces are shown to play a biggger part in fighting the Vietcong than the American,totally distorting reality?

I read that, in the remake of The Sound of Music, the Von Trapp family will be rescued from the convent by SEAL Team Six. (Also, instead of him having a crush on Liesl, Rolfe and Friedrich will be the ones dating. That'll help nail-down the LGBT demographic.)

As I remember correctly from reading an autobiography from an ex-CIA agent, he mentioned that Canada didn't have anything to do with it. He made Canadian passports and other legal (illegal) paperwork to get them out of Iran. Canada did publicly take credit for the rescue.

Argo is a fucking MOVIE and that clip is CNN Entertainment News.
Entertainment News and all those other BS TV shows are paid
to promote movies and their stars.

Well, after some careful digging, the best write-up on this subject is by Slate which breaks down which facets are false, and has some comment on the Canadian issue.

It is easy to point fingers one way, but it's equally easy to see examples of the opposite. Just recently they made a movie depicting Lincoln as a dual citizened Irish/British 54 year old, even though he was American and 56! Those extra 2 years throw my entire belief in Hollywood and in my own, Hollywood-based reality. I am now a shattered individual.

Oh well, I guess I had a nice President's Day in Canada.

ME3! I just got done bangin' Liara as FemShep! I didn't know that was Vancouver...I guess everybody does kind of hate Canada, eh?

It just seems the evidence of sources about the operation points towards a largely Canadian influence; of which Hollywood didn't give credit for. I know it's just a movie, but at least they could come closer to the mark when doing supposedly true stories on events in history.
