Viruses

I have been running AVG constantly for 5+ years, and also occasionally run Malware Bites.

When I realized that most virus reports were coming from an invisible section of the computer, I decided to investigate. First off: f*ck you Windows. Why do you make c:users/myname/appdata invisible? What happened to the "show hidden files" of Win9x?

Second:omg, you wouldn't believe how much shit I found in there. All kinds of little things with permissions set to deny:delete. Eventually, I sent AVG to specifically search that whole folder and it found even more. Point being, just because you run a virus scan doesn't mean you are finding shit.

I had nearly 100 GoogleUpdateSetup.exe files stashed in every hidden place imaginable. What's worse is that AVG doesn't even find the bastards. I don't who they Google fucktards are, but they sound like a pretty disreputable company. I think I am switching to Linux finally, and living up to my promise of open-source only.

Grr.

That's another reason why I'm not getting Win 8. I've tooled around with it on other people's computers, and the ability to customize things seems to be drastically reduced. It's like they made it only for the "technically challenged."

(Perhaps there's a Win 8 Professional version...)

DY: try ESET 32. Select an Interactive mode, so you can outright deny many of those websites from uploading crap to your computer.
