Good for Jason Collins, even better that his announcement seems to have been met with so much support. I've heard there's a group of NFL players who are planning to come out soon as well. I hope the support Jason Collins is getting encourages them

Meh. Everyone and their sister is coming out. He's gay, he's gay. Whatever. "Coming out" has kind of lost impact.

FYI, just a personal opinion. I don't care if people are gay, straight, bi, celibate, whatever. If you're not hurting anyone, I don't really care what you do.

I was actually thinking of posting about it earlier but didn't get around to it. It's less of a deal that he came out, IMO at least, and more of a big deal that he was apparently the first active American athlete in (unless I'm mistaken) Basketball, Baseball, Football and/or hockey to do so (At least on the male side of sports. I don't know them by name but I understand there are at least a couple openly lesbian WNBA players). I was surprised that there hadn't been a precedent for this. It really is a big step and I support him in his efforts. I am curious as to the ripple effects this will have around professional and possibly college sports as well.

It is a big step as far as professional sports in the U.S. goes. There have been professional athletes who were gay and their teammates knew about it (Glen Berks or something like that way back in the day), but not essentially telling everyone in the league, where there may be opponents who will use it as fodder against them.

Jason seems to have a good head on his shoulders about the situation too.

By the way, this does virtually guarantee he gets a contract next season, even though he's in his mid-30s on the downside of his career and is a free agent. Yey for threats of law suits and bad PR (which is the primary agenda here anyway)!

Good point. It actually takes more courage today to "come out" and say that marriage is what it always has been.

I don't get what the big deal is about being gay.
Just be who you are and to hell with a-holes.
