Amazed at first that nobody was talking about this in the forum... then realized you've probably read the news stories, but are afraid to comment on-line... for obvious reasons.

ARTICLE wrote:"The National Security Agency and the FBI are tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet companies, extracting audio and video chats, photographs, e-mails, documents, and connection logs that enable analysts to track foreign targets, according to a top-secret document obtained by The Washington Post."

http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics ... s-20130606

ARTICLE wrote:"The NSA access is part of a previously undisclosed program called PRISM, which allows officials to collect material including search history, the content of emails, file transfers and live chats, the document says."

ARTICLE wrote:"The order, signed by Judge Roger Vinson of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in April, directs a Verizon Communications subsidiary, Verizon Business Network Services, to turn over “on an ongoing daily basis” to the National Security Agency all call logs “between the United States and abroad” or “wholly within the United States, including local telephone calls."

"Specifically targets Americans, not foreigners"

That's every call made with Verizon. Every call.

In his defense, I made the same mistake. To attack him, he's using the same headline as Drudge (2013 = 1984).

I think it'd be more accurate to to say: 1776-2013 = 1984. It just more noticeable now. ;)

You mean other than the couple of threads in which we're discussing it?

Couple of questions,

1) Is this part of Anonymous' NSA leak? Everyone is acting like they discovered this story for themselves.

2) Why would this only be isolated to Verizon?

Obama is far from blameless, but the PRISM program was instituted under Bush.

So much for change eh?

I especially "liked" this part:

BBC wrote:A surgical mask is sometimes placed over the detainee to prevent them from spitting out the nutritional supplement. Still the SMO insists that it is really not force-feeding because the prisoner always has a choice to swallow the formula orally without the need for the tube.

Verizon isn't the only one. They are just the company that has been the least cooperative in the past, so they got named publicly.

If Obama ran on a platform against this exact thing, and then did the opposite of what he said he would do (Obama EXPANDED the program), yer damn right he is to blame. I told Republicans at the time not to support Bush with this power, because you don't know who the next president will be that will most certainly expand that power. But hey, the Tea Party people are full of it, right????

It's pretty clear now who is full of it.

This is the civil rights movement of our time.

as did those on the left, using the same argument. This is why Nixon should have been put in jail as well as Reagan,Presidents get away with it, the powers are expanded and the next president no matter what party never gives up the expanded power.

Well...since you mentioned it...yes, for the most part.

It's amazing how many different things you think are "the civil rights movement of our time" without ever being right about it.

That's because they are always growing the government and spending more than they have. Power isn't limited when government takes and spends another trillion out of the economy, and then another trillion, and another trillion. That is expanding power and government. The only way to shrink power is to shrink government.

Agree? If not, how do we shrink expanded government powers?

Nearly all political activity in the US is right...surprised no-one has mentioned Orwell was a long way removed from the tea party movement politically,he fought against Franco's fascists in the Spanish civil war and only became disillusioned with the USSR after Stalin effectively abandoned his side along with the infamous show trials of the late 1930's.

What passes for left wing in the US would be described as centre right in the majority of the rest of the world.
