The federal agency ruled that Air Canada's 12-year-old bumping payout rate is outdated and doesn't reflect the current price of airline tickets, accommodation and other incidental expenses.

The ruling doesn't affect WestJet Airlines (TSX:WJA) because it doesn't overbook flights.

Really? Air Canada's basic business model is to promise things that they can't possibly deliver? How can you run a business like this? Oh, that's right, bankruptcy protection.

I haven't flown Air Canada in many years, but that's only because WestJet always seems to have the flights I need at a better time/price. It's usually close, but Air Canada seems to always finish second.

I've heard great things about Porter, but they are very limited in where they fly.

Westjet all the way, man! Much better and friendlier service, both in general and when there's problems needing to be resolved.

Some of the Canadian government-owned (or at least highly controlled) enterprises remind me of China's. There's something odd and backwards about Canada.

Except we managed to privatize our FAA and in the US you still have to deal with shit like:

At least some people in the States get it:

I long lobbied for Transport Canada to be renamed "Our FAA" but they didn't listen to me. :x

Right now I'm trying to get Immigration Canada officially renamed "Our Version of ICE" and Parliament renamed to "It's Kinda Like Congress."

OTTAWA [JUNE 29, 2013] -- John Smith won a by-election to It's Kinda Like Congress on Monday from an eastern Ontario riding. Smith's victory may decide the future of Our Version of the Republican Party during a sensitive time as Stephen Harper enters his eighth year as Basically Our President. Smith campaigned on cutting the budget to Canada's Version of the Coast Guard, which was formerly known as the Canadian Coast Guard.
