Animal Cruelty...Laws?

Ok, so I occasionally have a dim view of some practices by animal rights activists. No question, they sometimes do things that are shady or misrepresent legitimate best practices (I grew up in a farming community, so I have some basis to recognize things that are legitimately animal cruelty and things that are not). However, some of their work IS important, as there is legitimate animal cruelty going on in some mass farming organizations (never mind the human health hazards associated with some of it). All that being said, I REALLY do not understand how these sorts of Ag-Gag laws are considered legitimately a good thing by lawmakers (yes, I realize it's all about following the money):

I grew around these sorts of communities, and these ag-gag laws mostly just seem to be about protecting economic interests unfortunately.

They're for protecting the animals really. These laws ensure that those animals won't have to suffer from being publicly humiliated without their consent.
