How I Just Saved a Million Gallons of Water

Turn off the water while you are brushing your teeth! I know lots of you leave the water on the entire time you brush. Wet your toothbrush and turn it off while you brush until you are ready to rinse! Same goes for washing your hands. If you are going to do it correctly (washing for about as long as it takes to sing happy birthday to yourself), get some soap and a bit of water, then turn the water off while you lather until you are ready to rinse!

Next I am going to share this on Facebook, and I will have saved 10's of millions of gallons of water over entire lifespans.

What have you done for the planet lately?

I win

I gave it a backrub!

And I didn't eat any animal products!

I recycled a significant portion of the water that I consumed, along with complexes of nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, sulfur, potassium, sodium, and countless other useful materials, while standing along Highway 403.

Taking a whiz doesn't count! Plus the shrub you thought it was funny to pee on is going to die, resulting in less oxygen being produced, so the planet it going to die that much faster.

Thanks....thanks a lot!

If the encounter concluded with penetration (like usual), I guess that counts.

I compost half my garbage, and recycle most of the rest.

I've not left the water running while brushing my teeth or washing my hands for 2 decades.

... I win!

On the contrary, a few leaflets on the shrub may die, but the shrub as a whole will be stronger as it gains much needed fixed nitrogen and other elements from the encounter.

You've probably been influenced by seeing plants die from dogs peeing on them, but dogs are creatures of habit who will pee in the same place every day until the ammoniac buildup is too great. I, however, distribute my benefits in an egalitarian fashion, and always stop at different points on the highway.

Almost a tie. I not only also compost whatever I can, but I started and manage a recycling location near where I live and help possibly 50-75 people recycle much more easily.

8-)

Only if it's true. Nobunaga didn't know about my recycling/composting habits because he never goes into live chat.

Dukasaur achieved savior status...

If its yellow let it mellow, if its brown, FLUSH IT DOWN!

Also I live in a place which very seldomly had water shortages (naturally we had one at the start of this year...) so its kinda pointless a lot of the time. "Sweet we'll save water so we can, er, um, what ARE we going to do with it?"

Stockpile it. I heard in 10 years water will be more valuable than oil.

Stockpiling is aint easy. It may be worth more that oil in some parts of the world, but unless something seriously weird happens with the world climate in the next decade, the roaring 40's is always going to be wet.

You'll use less water also if you just put some in the sink and shave with it, rather than letting the water run.

I installed a rain barrel about a month ago. It rained the day I put it in and filled to the top. I use that to water my veggie garden, but it goes quickly. I'm going to add two more barrels to the first.

Was more thinking world population 10 bil than climate change, perhaps that will be the climate change (the human problem). Save your pee in jars until it becomes economically viable to extract the water.

Jars of pee will be like jars of gold

It's okay, we can recycle water these days. Just take it to your recycling center when you're finished with it.

Either that or import water from China.

...Realize the cost-savings of $1-5 dollars per month for x-amount of labor-hours.

lol, sure. Phatscotty, the urine hoarder.

"YOUR PISS OR YOUR LIFE!" screams Phatscotty as he ravages the desert wasteland, depriving innocent folk of their unwanted excretions.

Let it go where nature intended. Just because humans don't use it doesn't mean its worthless.

That said, if propery recycled, a lot of water we use really can be returned, it just often isn't.

OK.. so you are taking a step they have been teaching kindergartners for at least 20 years. That's great!
How about not letting the water run while washing dishes (just turn it on to fill and then later to rinse) or just use a dishwasher (preferably full).

How about collecting water runoff from your roof and using it to water your plants? How about planting vegetation suited to the climate of your region, so you don't have to water except in unusual circumstances?

How about buying meat from naturally raised, grass fed cows, sheep, goats... and pigs/chickens that were raised sustainably?

How about buying as much as possible as locally as possible.

Etc.
