Seeing as I live in Warren, Michigan, I admit it's kind of hard to avoid Americans here. Still, it's true.
This got me to thinking - is there anyone on CC who lives in a country other than the United States who can honestly say they live amongst Americans? Post here if you can!

nop, though we do have one american, one canadian and a bunch of people from the asian continent at work.

I don't live amongst Americans, but I was in Warren, Michigan a few months ago. Little steel pipe place there, very narrow parking lot. Almost got stuck turning around; the guy had to come out with the forklift and move the garbage bins for me to get turned around. Very friendly people, though.

Rarely see Americans out here, it's too hot,dry and by the time they attempt to get this far inland, they would have been sliced up by an echidna and the drop bears would be having a feed, but since I will be living in Melbourne by the end of the week, I guess I will bump into the odd one here and there.

Canadian and American, same thing, you have the same culture and the same language. Why would you think it's hard to live amongst americans Serbia?

Our cultures are similar but not the "same".

Yes, I live amongst Americans (at times)...one of my ex-s is a Septic and my three children with her all have dual citizenship so, at times, (Xmas/birthdays etc)I am surrounded by them and their mother's parents in my own home... I fight back by keeping and breeding some of Australia's (hence the world's) deadliest snakes...they don't stay TOO long

We do get them here, Popping up now and then. But we try stamp them out as quick as they pop up...... can't let them breed or wise you will get an infestation of them and once you have them it hard to get rid of them.

The Swedish language is more closely related to among others Sanskrit, Hindu and Greek than it is to Finnish. In fact, it's more closely related to every single language named on the graph below. If the linguistic differences between Canadian English and American English is comparable to the differences between a indoeuropean language and a non indoeuropean language, then you guys have really diverted from another. It's a miracle you can understand anything they're saying!
