Nobel Prizes

They`ve been coming out all week, the Peace Prize (aka the Invitation to Assassinate Obama cuz he didn`t deserve shit prize) is out tomorrow.

Biology is for vesicle research. Cell biologists are all over the prizes, I was still giddy from last year when someone in my field won. Now we are back to the yawnfest.

Chemistry is for hybridizing two fields of physics. Using Newtonian physics and chemical models to model most of a reaction, but using quantum chemistry to model the actual reaction center. Very strong prize this year. I don`t know enough about the computer models and whether or not these individuals were the right ones but the results that these models give us are invaluable (biochemical reactions including enzymology).

The big one is all over my local paper right after the article on `Mayor defends audit`. The higgs boson. not a surprise.

The real surprise was in Literature (aka the way too many Nords Prize). Alice Munro is the first Nobel laureate whom I have read before she became a laureate. Yay.

Congrats to Monsanto on their prize. Mafia has finally gotten the kind of global recognition that it merits.

Ah yes, Monsanto is also named as inventors of the Higgs boson. Sorry I didn`t include that in the OP.

The Nobel Prize Winners for Economics will soon dominate the world. Please make your time. You have no chance to survive. Ha Ha Ha.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner (and runner up) confuses me.

Runner Up? There are no official runners-up. Rather than revoking Obama`s prize, from now on they all go to people who disagree with Obama.

I'm talking about the young woman who was shot for speaking about education for Muslim women. While I applaud her for her courage and conviction (and she deserves any and all praise), I'm not sure what that has to do with peace.

The peace prize winner gets 8 million kroner
http://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/ ... index.html

So, it's probably not so much about how much peace the recipient brought. It seems it's more about a committee deciding on which person/organization would most effectively spend the 8 million.

That's why Mukwege would be such a great investment.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... inees.html

But he's treating rape victims... I don't see how his actions bring about peace for the DRC. He did complain to the UN to 'do something' in the DRC, but that didn't bring about any peace.

There's those 3 Russian activists about homosexuality 'propaganda' laws in Russia. I guess fighting against the government to bring peace (?) to homosexual 'propagandists' counts as promoting peace.

Claudia Paz y Paz prosecuted people who committed war crimes and black market business people (drugs). Prosecuting war crimes makes sense. Perpetuating the war against drugs doesn't promote peace.

Putin's nomination was funny.

Snowden and Manning exposed the USG for what it is. If that influences American voters to some degree so that they're less likely to advocate for wars and further infringement on civil liberties, then that should bring about more peace.

Why not nominate anyone who advocates for trade instead of prohibition (and the deaths and costs which that brings)? Drug decriminalization/legalization is a great step in reducing the violence of the black market in drugs.

it's peace in a broader sense. Peace among classes, races, with nature. the award also goes to those who mitigate the effects of war, as well as mitigating war itself.
