Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (green) on the devil:

Have you seen evidence of the Devil lately?
You know, it is curious. In the Gospels, the Devil is doing all sorts of things. He’s making pigs run off cliffs, he’s possessing people and whatnot. And that doesn’t happen very much anymore.

No.
It’s because he’s smart.

Well, you’re saying the Devil is persuading people to not believe in God. Couldn’t there be other reasons to not believe?
Well, there certainly can be other reasons. But it certainly favors the Devil’s desires. I mean, c’mon, that’s the explanation for why there’s not demonic possession all over the place. That always puzzled me. What happened to the Devil, you know? He used to be all over the place. He used to be all over the New Testament.

Also included is him being offended at the reporter's skeptical reception of his statements shortly after he hinted to her that she was "unfortunately not" going to heaven and that "everyone is going one place or the other" in reference to heaven and hell. He's not saying anything definitive though!

But back on topic. What has the devil been up to lately? What has God been up to lately? Neither of them seems to do anything cool any more.

(1) There's always a calm before the storm.

(2) There's always a clam before the storm.

You decide.

Maybe he doesn't read the newspaper much.

If I believed in the devil, it wouldn't take me five minutes to find twenty examples of his work. There's people setting their pit bulls on their neighbours, people selling their children into slavery, "governments" burning down villages of tribes that didn't support them in the last non-election, some old woman beating her granddaughter to death with a sledgehammer, a nation in uproar because their elected leaders want to slow down their rate of fiscal suicide, people advertising in the Internet for a "lover" to come to their house and torture them to death, bands getting gold records for songs telling them to murder their wife....

Really, pigs running off cliffs seem like relative sanity. Maybe a nascent villain's first experiments....

Justice Scalia is exceptionally good at knowing what to say and when.
