Only in Canada: Shark choking on moose saved by two Newfies

Derrick Chaulk and Jeremy Ball saved a beached shark while it lay unresponsive and “flat on his back with his mouth open” after choking on a piece of moose meat, Mr. Chaulk told the CBC.
Mr. Chaulk was driving with his wife on Saturday near Norris Arm, Newfoundland when they saw what they thought was a beached whale.
Finding Mr. Ball already at the scene, the men saw that a two foot long piece of moose meat and fur was lodged in the shark’s mouth.
Mr. Chaulk believes the shark found the moose, likely from people throwing remnants of moose on the shore after cleaning carcasses nearby.
After pulling the meat out of the shark’s mouth, they attached a rope to its tail and pulled it into deeper water.
“Sitting in a foot of water,” Mr. Chaulk told CBC, “water started coming out of its gills” as it became more responsive.
After lying in the shallow water for about half an hour, the shark flapped its tail and returned to the deep expanse of the water.
The shark, thought to be about 8.5-9 feet long, is a bottom feeder and is rare to the area.
“It was a good feeling to see that shark swim out, knowing that you saved his life,” says Mr. Chaulk.
