What countries use "mate" to mean "friend" and which use "mate" to mean "lover?"
I made this helpful chart:
Friend = UK, New Zealand, Australia Lover = Canada, USA
Is it correct or not correct? What other words might cause swarthy young gentlemen like nietzsche and betiko to get into hijinx?

Sometimes Chinese people refer to the recipients of their affection as 'big brother' or 'little sister'.

I think some people in Canada and USA do that, too. Though they usually end up in prison.

Always go with Mates over Mate. Less chance of the mate falling off, catching a cold or making other little mates.

You can add a third one. In french, it means to look (kind of in a dirty way). But we french never pronounce the final "e" unless it has an accent so it s pronounced "mat".
So you would encourage a friend to "mate" that sexy lady passing by in the street, and you would "mate" some porn.

Liam is extremely popular here and Cody is fairly popular. Basil and Colton are not.
