Highest Radiation Level Ever, Lethal In 20 Minutes, Recorded Outside Fukushima Reactor

NHK reported today that TEPCO said radiation levels are extremely high in an area near a ventilation pipe at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. TEPCO found radiation of 25 sieverts an hour on a duct, which connects reactor buildings and the 120-meter-tall ventilation pipe.

Putting this number in context the estimated radiation level is the highest ever detected outside reactor buildings. People exposed to this level of radiation would die within 20 minutes.

The exhaust pipe in question was used to release radioactive gases following the outbreak of the accident 2 years ago.

Yeah, the situation at Fukushima is bad, real bad. Doesn't seem to be getting much attention though. The radioactive plume should be washing up on West coast shores anytime now, if not already....

Relax, nuclear power is safe and clean, everyone is over... reacting.

Ware yoo bin?

I joined facebook, started a free game and it sucked hours and days and months from my life. I'm now making weapons in this game that are really powerful, but take 9 to 24 days to make.

Hot!

Can you make a weapon to kill Facebook?

If I did, it would get more airtime with the MSM than Fukishima.

The Japanese should be used to radiation.... It's been there since August 6th, 1945... How do you think they turn into Power Rangers?

Saw somewhere that one of the tanks with the waste rods that's causing massive problems is up on the fifth floor of one of the exploded buildings and if it falls it will make Hiroshima and Nagasaki look like family fun days - didnt have time or motivation (or expertise tbh) to fact check the source but if it's true it's scary...

Nah... spent fuel rods on the fifth floor? Hiroshima & Nagasaki? This is a nuclear reactor power plant, not a bomb. There may be overheating if there's no water to cool active fuel rods, but there's no detonator to cause a nuclear explosion.

After the tsunami that damaged the plant, it was hydrogen gas buildup that ignited releasing radioactive steam and waste water into the surrounding environment. There hasn't been a lot of news about this mess or how successful efforts have been to maintain a safe perimeter and secure the site from future leaks.

Finally, someone who has the guts to clear that whole mess up.

lol - every 9 days McDonalds sells enough big macs worldwide to make one Hiroshima - I wonder why they never used that in their marketing...

Someone should make a CC map for this. Reactor terts revert to neutral. Water terts revert to neutral. Land terts have a negative bonus.

25 sieverts an hour?

Don't you mean 0.0004 nano-Hiroshima-equivalents per kg an hour?

:( Better stick with the sieverts.

Rightly so. The amount of radiation released by this accident is equal to one ten-thousandth of the amount of radiation released annually by the world's coal plants.

Yeah... if you're an America-hating commie, that is.
