If you know any groundhogs, tell them to do a good job today and make the fucking snow stop, finally!

He shit in the mayor's face and all over his $4,500 suit coat. I guess that means it's gonna get shitty.

We have a split decision:

Punxsutawney Phil
years of experience: 128
shadow seen: yes

Wiarton Willie
years of experience: 58
shadow seen: yes

Buckeye Chuck
years of experience: 36*
shadow seen: no

General Beuregard Lee
years of experience: 33
shadow seen: no

Staten Island Chuck
years of experience: 32
shadow seen: yes

Shubenacadie Sam
years of experience: 27
shadow seen: no

Winnipeg Willow
years of experience: 2
shadow seen: no

Punxatawney Phil and Wiarton Willie, the most experienced forecasters in the U.S. and Canada respectively, both saw their shadow and predicted that the White Witch will continue to rule. More optimistic forecasts seemed to originate with less experienced groundhogs, possibly trying to expand their audience with more upbeat predictions.

*=approximate. Exact date of origin unclear.

I didn't even know about Essex Ed, but after doing a search of his stats, I would not have included him even if I did. I checked four different compilations of famous groundhogs and basically included those who appeared on two or more lists. Essex Ed did not appear on any. Furthermore, like Balzac Billy, he is a fake, which would have led to his exclusion in any case. (Balzac Billy appeared on three of the four lists, but as you can see he did not get on mine due to being a fake groundhog.)

I also excluded groundhogs who were clearly overmatched by regional rivals. Thus, Brandon Bob did not make the list because Winnipeg Willow is clearly more popular in Manitoba media circles. The dominant groundhog in the New York / New Jersey region is definitely Staten Island Chuck, so Essex Ed would have been excluded on regional dominance grounds even if he was not already excluded for general lack of fame and for fakery. So, on three different grounds he would not have made the cut.

Is groundhog day still going on? What day (in terms of time from the initial loop) are we on?

There is a fake Essex Ed and a real Essex Ed. This plot is so thick. Due to the looping, it's also twisted.

It's thick and twisted. Like a forest. Or my neurons. Incomplete sentence. Incomplete wor

Thick and twisted is so much better than bitter and twisted.
