Break-Up California

Tim Draper this week announced he's funding an initiative to put a measure on the November ballot to dissolve California and establish six states in its place (though each of the six states would then have to be admitted back into the U.S. by Congress).

Why does everything has to have a purpose?

According to the website, the purpose is coming soon and you should "stay tuned" ... http://www.sixcalifornias.info.

But, we can guess on a few things ...

Presumably "South California" and "Jefferson" would be Republican states, "Central California" would be a swing state and the other three would Democratic states so it would result in a net gain of two Democrats in the U.S. Senate. On the other hand, in presidential elections, it would also dilute California's 55 guaranteed Democratic votes in the Electoral College to 35 or so, create 15 new guaranteed Republican votes and make another 5 votes up for competition.

According to the LA Times, the new state of Silicon Valley would surpass Connecticut as the richest state in the U.S., while the new state of Central California would surpass Mississippi for the poorest. So, infrastructure in Silicon Valley would improve even more as more money stays in the region, while infrastructure in Central California would get even worse as there would be no more wealth transfers from San Francisco to Fresno.

Honestly, I think instead of breaking up California, we should welcome Crimea into the USA.

Let's import their country to somewhere in between Jackson, MS and Mobile, AL. There's nothing but trees and a few houses in between.

Or better yet, remove Mobile, AL and put Crimea, the city of traders, on the sea coast. They'd love it.

Right, I added Crimea down there to be the testicles of Florida.

I'm all for more beachfront property. Bring in Baja and we can transform Tijuana into our own Vegas.

Let's not be dramatic. Baby steps. Next year the rule is that no state can be bigger than Vermont in size or population.

EU will get the same rule, using Lichtenstein as the benchmark.

Africa's guide will be Djibouti... so just like it is now.

I wonder what would happen to California's economy-busting debt and the wealth redistribution methods. Wouldn't they have to settle their books? Oh yeah, they will probably just dump it on the rest of us and get bailed out.
