I heard that they were reopening his suicide case cause some pictures of his last days were found with some intriguing people. Was that a hoax? Or is the police really investigating it 25 years later?

I love grunge music, but I think Nirvana (and Cobain) are vastly overrated.

Hummmm i think you re slightly older than me so you ve lived those grunge years too. How can you not think that nirvana didn t change completely rock music?

Well sure, there was a lot of pre grunge in the 80s with awesome bands like the pixies... But basically every single song on all the nirvana albums are big hits...
Not to mention that suiciding aged 27 guarantees a lifelong reputation of legend. More artists should do it. Inspiration dies at 28.

I do not undervalue Nirvana's place as the leading band in grunge from a "we got here first" perspective. However, I believe Mad Season, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains were much better bands with much better songs and musicians. I enjoy Nirvana, I just don't worship the band (like most grunge lovers). I leave my grunge worship for the four bands noted.

I m a huge soundgarden fan and chris cornell in general, Alice in chains was pretty good, and pearl jam well.. Had a few albums but i always kind of thought they were over rated.
Nirvana were crap musicians, and with nothing they were able to make all these great tunes. You can t possibly tell me you are not amazed by the creativity of the nevermind album..
There was all this "fan" thing around nirvana that makes it cool to say they were over rated because of their mainstreamness, but they were really really good.

Suiciding and leaving family behind tto grieve and wonder "was it my fault?" is appalling. And unforgivable.

Maybe you just heard them at a very impressionable age.

Myself, when I first heard Nirvana I remember thinking what a pile of crap it was, and I was really surprised when they had mainstream success. Of course, I was already over 30, and getting to that age when all new music sounded like crap.

Over the years Nirvana has grown on me. I actually like it now, but it still wouldn't make my Top 10.

Nirvana has never been one of my favorite bands. At that time my favorite bands were soundgarden, smashing pumpkins and STP. Nevertheless, I did like nirvana. What were your favorite bands in the early 90s?
Those were my personal tastes, but nirvana was a generational thing and tunes of teenagehood. And yes, this band was special, and kurt cobain was obviously someone special.

because he was a double genious (27x2). I was kidding man. But there is a ton of artists in that "27 club":
James Dean, Brian Jones (rolling stones), Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Alan Wilson (canned heat), Jim Morrisson, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse...

You're comparing SUICIDE to non-suicidal deaths? Or simply the age at which they passed? James Dean for example was 24....John Belushi was 30 something....Sam Kinnison was 38 (I saw him the weekend before his death...damn)...

*gets distracted and wanders offfffff*

yeah just death, even if most of these were due to drug overdoses, therefore can be considered as suicide. and james dean didn't recheck, just heard it was 27 too but you are probably right (other listed are 100% sure). I don't know who this sam kinnison is and he surely isn't world famous, so I can add the age of death of my uncle that wasn't 27 if you want!

I assume your uncle was in multiple big screen movies, on Letterman / various other syndicated broadcast shows and toured extensively doing performances? Throw him in!

Lastly....why such a hater? :-s

You are just giving as a counter example a guy that is basically known only in the US. Fyi, letterman isn t famous outside of the US either. You can t compare the worldwide fame of a rockstar/ hollywood actor with US TV presenter/stand up comedian, that isn t exported worldwide, all I m saying.

well, if you consider that people know that:
1) drugs are not good for health
2) quantities vary the effects and the dangerosity
3) quality has influence on the dangerosity

even if you're not at you full thinking capacity, if you go OD you are probably at a point where you don't give a flying f*ck about your body, and you are perfectly aware that you are killing yourself slowly. This is like playing russian roulette and losing. You're gonna tell me that it's not suicide in case you lose playing russian roulette? so why is it different from trying out insane amount of drugs over a short period of time?

So if someone drinks too much in a club and dies of alcohol poisoning, they committed suicide?
