What is their unemployment? demographics? median income?

Unemployment is a bullshit stat. Because I am a full-time student, Canada doesn't count me as unemployed.

Your chances in Washington DC of having 2 parents to leach off and having good medical insurance is slim to none. Lucky that you were born in a country that actually supports leaches like yourself. In America we're expected to rise from the mud of poverty on our own.

I think the American poor should immigrate to Canada, where life is easy. America will continue accepting poor Mexicans to keep our wages low, so the top 1% will continue to enrich themselves.

I actually own the house my parents live in and they lease from me. To say I leach is a ridiculous accusation. I make my money in the 6 months of the year that I do work. During that time I work, I pay money into an "unemployment insurance fund" which is legally mandated. Since I am, according to their definition, not unemployed, I am not allowed to collect from the unemployment insurance fund, not even the funds that I put in myself. The government puts as much distance between me and my first million as possible. I'm still on pace to make it by 30 though.

Socialized medicine? I don't go to the doctor. The worst thing I ever had was chicken pox. Bad things don't happen to good people.

Ahhhh, to be young again and feeling that nothing will harm you. At least Canada has that safety net ready for you, when and if you take that hard fall.

I've been to DC a few times (in a tourist capacity and in a work capacity) and it seems okay. I've been in worse cities (e.g. Camden, New Jersey).

From what I can find, there were 103 murders in DC in 2013 and a population of 646,449 which works out to a rate of 15.9. Not great, but then if it weren't for one incident of a nut with a gun killing 12 people, it would have been 14.1. Even at the 15.9 figure, DC is still below the 2012 rates for New Orleans, St. Louis, Baltimore, Newark, Oakland, Stockton, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Memphis, Atlanta, Chicago, Buffalo, and Miami. Not to mention Caracas, where the homicide rate is 122. And you think DC is the worst city ever?

Unemployment should be a measure of people trying to find a job but unable to.

Right now it is a measure of nothing. It counts or doesn't count people based on nothing.

If the Canadian bureaucracy follows the standards of the US' Bureau of Labor Statistics, then DY doesn't count as either employed or unemployed. He's simply omitted from the labor pool.

If one is a "full-time" student who works a part-time job and if he leaves/gets fired, then he can count as unemployed so long as he 'searches' for a job every month or so.

So I have to get a job in order to be considered unemployed. Great.
