Whether the movie sucks or not, it's a crime to do these kind of gratuitous rewrites of canon. It's wrong in Superman, it's wrong in Lord of the Rings, it's wrong in Star Trek, it's wrong in every imaginary world.
Once the fans are emotionally invested in a certain worldview, it's a crime to tear it away.

Next Michael Bay film:
Santa, a tree-hugging environmentalist who lives deep in the woods, travels the world on Johnny Appleseed day, giving the good boys and girls fruits, vegetables, and tree saplings.

I was between 9 and 11 years old when I was fan of the ninja turtles; cartoons, toys, then movies... I don t think anyone is emotionally super invested in the ninja turtles. It s not a phenomenon that lasted long enough.
It still is complete BS to make yet a new TMNT movie over 20 years after the hype modifying the essence.... The story that is explained in every cartoon opener on how it all began.
So is this explosion enthousiast going to recreate every single toy/cartoon stuff from our childhood?
By the way... In the transformers series, why did this asshole had to do an optimus prime and bumblebee based on complete different car/truck models than the original ones?
Let s burn michael bay.

The linked article is from two years ago. Bay's come to his senses somewhat.
The Transformers director caused a furore among fans of the long-running series last year when he told an interviewer that the famous "heroes in a half-shell" would be extra-terrestrials in a forthcoming Bay-produced reboot, which is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman. However, in a new interview with Movieline, the film-maker makes it clear that he is now sticking with the traditional origins story for Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.
...
The news will come as some solace to fans, who took to Twitter and Facebook last year to criticise plans to change the turtles' backstory. In the original comic books, TV series and films, the heroes are mutants who gain anthropomorphic powers after encountering radioactive ooze. However Bay said in March last year that they would be "from an alien race" as well as "tough, edgy, funny, and completely lovable", sparking a backlash from Turtle aficionados.
The director then compounded the issue by issuing an irritable statement calling for fans to "take a breath, and chill", and pointing out that they had "not read the script". He added: "Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex backstory. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."
I'm no fan of Bay's Transformers, but they made Transformers Animated and Transformers Prime possible, so for that, I'm grateful. The Turtles have been doing fine for a while now. Bay's movie will increase their profile, but it shouldn't rock their world too much.
That however, does not change the fact that

I thought the tv cartoons were a complete betrayal of the original comics.

Who cares of the original comic! I heard it was way too dark for the kid I was and the toys were cool.
By the way, i remember that they had to rename them "teenage mutant hero turtles" at some point because ninja sounded too violent.

There are problems with movies when you realize the best part are the t&a shots of the lead actress and you aren't watching a porno.

I wonder, with Megan Fox playing April O'Neil, if Michael Bay's going to sneak in any Transformers references.
It would have been fun to cast April O'Neil as April O'Neil. Can she act, though? (Her acting can't be worse than Megan Fox's.)

Not in the USA, but in some countries in Europe they took out "Ninja" and put in "Hero".

Yeah i was in india at that time not in europe.we had to import stuff and i guess it came both from the US and europe. At some point the cartoons on video tapes mentioned "teenage mutant hero turtles". That was total mental diarea, and a scandal for all the kids having to deal with it.

This.
The Ninja Turtles have always been aliens... they are red eared sliders which are invasive parasites on 6 different continents. It's because many people get them as pets and then release them into the wild. It's not Michael Bay who is the devil... it's you motherfuckers that destroyed the planet. I hope all your fan series are ruined with inconsistent plot points.

Oh, and nobody can complain about subsequent fucking about with the concept if they don't think the original concept is valid. Personally, I've never been a fan of any incarnation, so pffffft!

I wasn't ever a big fan of the stories in the various comics, but the art was good.
