Eh? It is soon upon us this summer. Post your mostly uninteresting musing and discussion points about the world cup in this topic. Or don't.

Nope. That topic is dedicated to generalities, man. This is a specific topic. But thanks for your christening.

You get a pee from mexico, you get another pee from france.
The football thread is where the world cup is discussed... Even if for now the top priority is the champions league final tomorrow night!

The World Cup deserves a separate topic.

I for one am looking forward to it. I don't see any way the US gets out of the group. The other team I'm pulling for, England, also has a very tough draw. Brazil as hosts are huge favorites. Germany, Spain, Argentina, all solid.

Underdogs I'm interested in (other than the US) are Bosnia (obviously), Belgium and Uruguay. Belgium is interesting because they're actually good this year. Uruguay could have a shot at going far, if Luis Suarez is healthy, which is obviously a huge question right now.

I'm not a big club fan (I'll watch the EPL if it's on, I cheer for Athletico because of David Villa, but I refuse to watch MLS), but I love watching both the Euro and World Cup.

Bollocks.

Colombia should be a tough outsider too. Bosnia could face france in the last 16, would be a great oponent for us.

the taco boy has opened an ESPN bracket game in the football thread if you guys want to participate and join the CC predictions group.

I watched Real Madrid's relentless offense in the second half as a lethargic Atletico surrendered the equalizing goal in the 93+ minute.

The better team won, BUT... the upset was in hand,
before the flood gates opened. 4-1

I watched the second half as well. Real was just unreal, and deserved the result they got.

Bollocks.

I watched the entire match and Atletico Madrid certainly had chances to extend their lead before the final minutes. But Real Madrid owned the second half with Atletico on their heels defending with very few offensive sparks.

I'll just echo what Zlatan Ibrahimovich said, "One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch so it is not worthwhile to wait for the World Cup" .

Belgium has a much better team than netherlands now.
"Les diables" are quite appreciated here in france. I wish them all the best, this is possibly the best belgian team ever.

The US really fell in a horrible group, no chance for them.

Are you kidding? The US have 23 players that are better than Landon Donovan, they surely have a shot at winning the WC.

How hilarious would it be to see Portugal eliminated at the group stage.

I don't get it either. Klinsmann's being a bitch for no reason - and I'm just hoping against hope he hasn't doomed us to elimination in the group stage.

It's obviously something personal, after what Klinsmann's son tweeted, there's not doubt about it.

In 2006 Mexican coach Lavolpe didn't include Cuauhtemoc Blanco, argueable the best Mexican player, because of personal reasons. People manifested in different cities in Mexico, didn't help. Lavolpe, I believe, couldn't have made that decision without the support of a group of players that didn't like the level of influence Cuauhtemoc had, and IMO they didn't want Cuauhtemoc because he would've gotten more than half of the ad contracts for the WC. It's a huge thing here in Mexico, the advertising previous to the WC.

Speaking of which, I don't think coaches should be allowed to do that kind of thing, in Argentina Sosa is going to the WC, and Tevez isn't..
