Some schools in Vancouver are reported to be doing away with the old-fashioned pronouns "he" and "she" for their transgender pupils in favour of a new gender-neutral word, "xe".

The school board in the Canadian city has approved a new policy which allows pupils to be referred to as "xe, xem and xyr" instead of "he or she", "him or her", and "his or hers". Another change will allow children to choose to use any toilet facilities they prefer, including a mandatory unisex option.

One must read the bit indicating Brits are "snooty".

Pretty sure no one on the planet uses the word 'one' as a replacement for 'he' or 'she'.

We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against.

Also, why can't we just use they? Its not like there will be plurality confusion (we already use 'you' to me singular or plural you twats) and its actually used unlike one.

They don't allow it in Cambridge. Typical American response - "How do we solve a problem? Take a shit on the Queen's Tongue".

Gah, why can't language be left alone to naturally evolve? We create words as we need them, sure, but I shudder every time some official agency announces new words for immediate use. Double plus ungood, I say.
