I don`t understand . Who`s offended ? Who wants an exception ? Are you offended and trying to disguise your frustration through a community action ? I dont want it hidden , tagged , or in a sub forum. Your from australia , No ones discussing your politics , so why stick your two cents where it`s not needed. YOU ARE WHATS WRONG WITH THE WORLD TODAY , TRY TO MAKE ONE HAPPY BY SHITTING ON ANOTHER.

I am not offended at all. TBH, I couldn't care less. But I get countless reported posts based on religion and politics, so rather than force any changes, I thought I would ask you people and put that to the admins if and only if there is a request for change.

is it really just bout politics and religion? or is it all the nazi-flagwaving and profanity namecalling and intolerant and bigoted attitudes of the poster??? And I thought our recent wave of raving Leftist extremism was already properly dealt with?

I made a suggestion quite similar to this, and others have before me. Bottom line was no majority of people wanted the Star Chamber or the Platinum Lounge. it might have been 35/65 tho. Guess people will still have to suffer reading the title of the thread to guess what it's about. As to a color coded option, that will probably work as well as it did for terrorism alerts. And of course telling people to grow up is totally out of the question.

:(

Personally, I would like to see 2 off topic forums.. one for serious debate and the other for mindless drivel.

But whatever the majority wants,I will push forward with in battle against the admins. I'm not going to force change unless it is what more than 50% requested.

If anyone has other suggestions let me know and I will happily add them to the poll.

Count me in! For the most part, 95% of my posts are in my own threads, so you can see it's my thread and people know they are coming into Phatscotty land. Sure, it's annoying certain posters will never engage me in actual conversation, instead they dedicate their lives to making sure to say something negative about every post I make, and to make sure the messenger is smeared, while NEVER EVER actually participating in the topic at hand. But I totally expect that, being so effective :P

But you gotta name it for the guy who already did a lot of the legwork ;)

As the beebs is no longer with us, I feel compelled to say that you should allow the ot forum to self-regulate in true libertarian fashion. Splitting this forum in two will result in the death of both. Nobody will come to the cc politics forum to discuss politics except for the small handful of people who already do, and likewise with the "mindless drivel," so that means you'll pretty much just shrink the populations by half. And besides, I think the line distinguishing the two can be awfully thin, at times. Take the recent evolution or young earth threads-- political drivel or miscellany drivel? Or both? Don't be a splitter unless absolutely necessary.

Let it grow into whatever is wanted/needed at the time.

Merge them if they are all but identical, but otherwise leave it how it is. No one has to open a politics/religion thread if they don't want to.

but you don't understand the absolute pain that comes with someone having to see that a poltical/religous thread exists, because you know, they have come so far in tolerance and acceptance. they will not tolerate anyone challenging their opinion in public, because quite simply they are scared shitless to actually have to look at an issue, it terrifies their bubble world they all live in, and if they were ever challenged on their beliefs or confronted with a question they didnt memorize the talking points response to they would simply explode, because they are so certain they are right they don't even have to talk about it, it just is. They don't even have to listen, they don't even want to see the words. And what's funny is they are the most certain of their beliefs without ever having tested them. That's what this forum is to me, always has been, a place to test myself, and I am forever thankful for it as it helped opened my eyes in so many ways.

I say grow up; let this be a starting point for you into the real world. If you don't develop as a human being and challenge yourself, you might as well never come out of the house and just accept you are going to be taken advantage of and pushed around for your entire life.

How about giving us a little break? Looks like you have problems tolerating other people's opinions, just look at your posts so far in this thread.

Regarding the OP question; I am mostly annoyed by the repeated "serious" threads openings regarding the same theme (lately, creationist threads are invading this forum). I mean, I don t care if tons of threads are opened, but UC creating 4-5 threads about creationism each time he feels like farting is a provocation. Most of the people here are rational people, and it really feels like pure trolling the fact of opening all these threads about a subject that isn't really one. It's just there to insult the intelligence of mankind.

Yeah, i wouldn t mind if a forum for "special people" was created for zealots and hard core selfish capitalists so they can discuss whatever they want. They will get along pretty well.

This.

Splitting into two forums would kill both. Too much serious debate and too much tomfoolery both get really boring really fast. What makes this forum interesting is that they are blended together. Just when you're getting thoroughly sick of the debate, somobody interjects something really ridiculous and makes it amusing. Just when you're getting really sick of silly jokes, somebody posts something really intelligent and thought-provoking. Back and forth goes the pendulum, and one doesn't get too sick of either side, but a steady diet of either would be completely repulsive.

That being said, I wouldn't mind merging some of the duplicate threads. That's a relatively non-invasive kind of invasion.

In reality, I don't like to meddle to much into what happens here unless it is requested/reported.

But, I put feelers out now and then to see what, where, how, we can improve things.

Has it ever dawned on the administration that they are trying to bandage a finger when the head is injured?

Why don't you come down hard on the whining cry babies and their frivolous wasting of the valued mod's time. The Coast Guard is now charging for rescues if the idiot created the problem, why not warn and ban the overly active complaint filers????

Start naming them publicly. Shame them into thinking before they whine.

You are barking up the wrong tree.

I don't think i said we were going to make a change to the forums, I was just seeing what the people here wanted, and if they want change, then I would approach the admins..

I don't think there are any overly active complaint filers, really. At least there haven't been since I've had mod powers. You hear about such things "back in the day" but I don't know how much of that is reality and how much is legend. In recent times, at least, it's been a couple from this guy, a couple from that guy, with nobody standing out as filing an unusual number.

This month was special because there was one complaint by me and one complaint against me, both of which are quite rare events...:)

The politics and religion threads do, of course, generate more complaints than most, because tempers get hot, but no person or faction generates an undue percentage of them.

TeeGee (aka Gary) said he gets "countless reported posts based on politics and religion". It's a forum. Why even press the complaint button unless it's racist, bigoted or hate???? Are the people that immature here that they can't handle a differing point of view?

If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I believe there are several overly zealous button pressers, otherwise Gary wouldn't have said what he said.

The forum should not be divided, it should be left as is.

I tend to agree. I think the way we split off Forum games and Mafia games made sense back in the day, since the aims of those topics (well, at least Mafia) were pretty specific. Forum games really doesn't need its own forum, but we sort of thought it might be nice. What is nice about the Off Topics forum is that silly topics existing along side serious topics, and that is beauty of the juxtaposition.

We have had users in the past who have made frivolous reports and were punished. The more recent reports are more random and less any one person and some have more merit than others. We don't necessarily punish for one or two frivolous reports from a poster because people do have different standards for what may qualify as trolling, flaming, etc. So considering that there are multiple people out there who have not really made a habit of frivolous reporting, sending out a feeler to see how the forum feels about this topic is a legitimate measure.
