EVO 2014

This topic will not be as hot as the World Cup 2014. But I do remember watching some of the final rounds of EVO 2014 on Twitch last year, and they were kind of silly fun. It is basically a giant open tournament for a number of fighting games, like the World Series of Poker or something like that.

You can watch again (with commentary by announcers) on Twitch this year.

Polygon also just had a little primer for Street Fighter specifically, which was sort of interesting to see split second decision making and chess match going on: Article Here.

I know pretty much next to nothing about Fighting Games, but again the silly enthusiasm for the tournament, especially in the final rounds, is pretty fun.

THese threads you are starting will not count for the thread killer stats.

I will make sure Haggis discounts these threads of you next time he runs the crawler.

I know what you're all about, you can't fool me.

I am going to watch all the Finals. How did you watch Evo 2014 last year? Do you have a time machine?

I've never liked Smash tournament. All the things I enjoy about the games (the maps, the items, the zaniness of 4p action) they don't use in tournament mode. All the things I hate about Smash (ledge invincibility, circle camping) are the main components of tournament play.

Computer games are destroying society, and shame on all of you for revelling in it. The youth of today are being taught to be amused by slaughter and gang violence. 'Kill prostitutes to get your money back' is now taken as common sense. Baying for blood used to earn you a trip to a psychiatrist; now parents let their children simulate sniper rampages as a reward for finishing their homework. This is what twisted game designers are doing to the collective psyche, and this is what your consumer dollars are funding.

Enjoy watching people play their game in which they turn deadly street brawls into entertainment, and don't forget lock your door before going to sleep tonight. Welcome to the Clockwork Orange.

You know how in the sci-fi writers try to anticipate future sports (a la...a movie of the same name with Dean Cain apparently according to a google image search, or...)

show
