A grand jury indicted Gov. Rick Perry on two felony counts on Friday, charging that he abused his power last year when he attempted to pressure the district attorney here, a Democrat, to step down by threatening to cut off state financing to her office.

The charge of abuse of official capacity carries a prison sentence of five to 99 years, and the charge of coercion of a public servant charge carries a two-to-10-year prison sentence.

Rick Perry hasn't mastered the art of tact.

Mr. Perry did not testify before the grand jury. Mary Anne Wiley, Mr. Perry’s general counsel, defended Mr. Perry’s actions in a statement on Friday. “We will continue to aggressively defend the governor’s lawful and constitutional action, and believe we will ultimately prevail,” she said.

In the interest of providing context, from http://kxan.com/2014/08/15/texas-govern ... rand-jury/:
At the center of the issue is a complaint about intimidation stemming from Perry’s threat to veto of $7.5 million in state funding to the Public Integrity Unit run by Lehmberg’s office. The threat came after she pleaded guilty to drunk driving and served a 45-day sentence; Perry called on her to step down but she refused to resign her position. Perry then vetoed the funding for the PIU.

I see how you tried to deflect the question. Still not convinced. Based on previous conversations, Notyou2 I doubt your honesty. Unless of course your holding out for a horse cock over a donkey dick.

Unless the prison system in the USA has regressed to pre industrial revolution farming and freighting the "good" guvna will not be seeing animal phalluses except maybe on an attack dog.

About as likely as Obama being sued or impeached.

The reason he wanted her to step down is so he could apt a publican in her place. Her office was in the process of investigating all the money he was doling out to his cronies.

children, children, children... if you don't live in texas, don't step into texas politics... there is always something very murky under the surface... one month before lehmberg, we had this play out: http://www.elpasotimes.com/newupdated/c ... dwi-austin This woman was greeted with a standing ovation when she returned to work and republicans were outraged that anyone had suggested she step down... i actually know a person that works on the PR team for Lehmberg (of course someone had to say this on the internet) and she had a target on her, because she was after perry... i was actually with her when she got the call to go to the jail because her client had been arrested and was spitting on cops and they were trying to get her out before the media found it. anyway, it all comes down to perry punishing the dems for calling for the head of gonzales and for lehmberg going after him... it is just politics as usual here in texas...-eJn

I think J.R. had a hand in this.

Not only did she get a DWI, she tried to use her power and threaten a police officer to get out of the DWI.

Why how dare someone try to do anything about that?!!!!

Quiet Scotty!! Facts don't matter in this place unless they coincide with what the liberal fruitloops here want.

facts are facts. Liberal/Conservative has nothing to do with the D.A. threatening a police officer to attempt getting out of a DWI.
