Age of consent

At what point should an individual's genitals no longer be subject to government control?

People must be 18 years or older to subject themselves to genital mutilation.

Tattoos on genitals? I haven't thought this one through.

I wonder how much the sex laws about consent have delayed people's maturity. E.g. are the 16 year olds of today more mature or less mature than the 16 year olds of 1750 AD? (In North America)

I am legitimately of the opinion that there should be some sort of "decision making test". Sort of like a test someone would take before they get their permit. If they can pass the test, then they will be declared as a "legal adult" and can do whatever the f*ck they want...buy cigarettes, have sex, gamble, etc. But if they can't pass it, then they shouldn't be allowed to do any of that shit because they haven't proven they are responsible and they wouldn't understand the choices they would be making if they were allowed to do those things.

Things like sexual maturity are completely subjective. I know people in their 20s who are less responsible sexualy than an 18 year old.

A one size fits all age doesn't work. It should be case by case.

then again... when talking about consent in the realm of 'who you love', not only is it now impossible to define consent, we have smashed/surrendered the tools that allowed us to ever collectively define consent in the first place.

Once you are 36-22-36, you are legal age.

I like Doomer's angle here, and it has inspired me to respond to all posts with rap-lyrics for the first week of November

I like your train of thought. Its utterly impractical, but i like it.

I also feel the same about voting and reproducing (yeah BBS I just supported eugenics).

i will have to agree with both of you.

Also say you are in high school, dating a girl your age and you are both 17: the day one of you turns 18, if he continues having sex with his partner he becomes a criminal while a day earlier it was ok.
And yes, maturity doesn't come with a birth date on a driving licence. you do pass a test to be allowed to drive; in some US states it's 14yo; why not passing a test for sex? And love loot's idea about voting and reproducing too lol.

A 20yo dating a 17yo is way less shocking than a 50yo dating an 18yo. The age difference should be taken into consideration.

Surely, nothing could go wrong with state interference into human reproduction! Our imagined policies and the desired outcomes will be carried out--just as expected!

think of the great people's republic of china! :D
I honestly think controlling their demographics was a good thing.

There's 'de jure', and then there's 'de facto'.

There's also exceptions, so long as the enforcing agency can use discretion (or the enforcement of its procedures is practically nonexistent).

Why is it fucked up? If it didn't mention their ages you would say that article described a bunch of people engaged in perfectly normal, healthy relationships.

Well it shows kids that have not enough attention in their own homes; that have already been either fucked up by pedophiles and go towards these same kind of relationships, or get involved into them because an adult is a good listener. Not to mention that a lot of them are straight. It's just absolutely disgusting. But yeah, in the relationships described, seems like both parties are in need of something that they fulfill with the pedophile relationship. These cases described are most likely not the norm and if they participated openly in the survey it's becaue it was as close as it can get to mutual consent. Why is the research only about men-boys though?
