What's the big deal anyway? You'd probably have MORE freedom under Russian dictatorship than living in the West or the USA. It's certainly a better alternative to killing off all life on the planet. Or maybe you'd rather join China?

Those seem to be your only two choices: Russia or China.

Side note... Putin had a speech in German parliament in 2001 about economic zone spreading from the shores of the Atlantic up to the shores of the Pacific Ocean... Similar dreams had other European politicians, but I guess that will never be fulfilled without use of weapons now.

Side note... Putin had a speech in German parliament in 2001 about economic zone spreading from the shores of the Atlantic up to the shores of the Pacific Ocean... Similar dreams had other European politicians, but I guess that will never be fulfilled without use of weapons now.

France already spreads from the atlantic to the indian, to the antartic, to the pacific ocean. Suck it up putin!

Well, let's see...I don't think Russia or China collect ALL MY FUCKING META DATA AND CAN USE IT ON A WHIM! That seems pretty brutal and over the top. Sure, nobody's breaking in the front door and electrocuting my testicles; but we do have the TSA that seem to want to feel me up every time I want to fly on a fucking airplane now.

And you can't choose both. China and Russia are not the same country...duh!

people fight over pixel size territories, look what china vs japan or japan vs korea, or spain vs uk or spain vs morocco are doing now a days. It's pretty strategic to be everywhere. Or the malwines/falkland islands in the 80s...
European france is 640 000 square KM; while all it's territories outside of europe totalize 550 000 square KM. France has the second largest maritime territory in the world after the US.
The metropolitan population is 66,6 millions while the outer european population on its territories is only 2,7 millions though.

And as far as I know you come from a pixel size country goran!

25 000 square kilometers, that's 3,5 times smaller than French Guyana alone...

well I'm talking about 2014 facts and reality (and a reality that is several centuries old). All these territories are french, with different levels of autonomy. What you are talking about is putin's wet dream, not a reality. Given how bad the international scene took his advancings into crimea, if he wants to reach the atlantic he'd rather go through the black sea or the baltic sea.

Actually france has built 2 helicopter carriers for russia that were ordered in 2011. They are now ready but france is in a diplomatic shit... They say they won t deliver the boats now given the geopolitical context of 2014, but they don t really want to sit on the 1,2 billion € russia is supposed to pay for them. Russia is now threatening france not to pay the full contracts if they don t deliver the boats in the next month. France would really get in trouble with all the good guys (EU+USA).
I think we should just sell them to Australia so they take care of those russian tugboats terrorizing locals.

Although economically not hating the Russians does open huge doors for small country like us. And yes, EU isn't capable of much as we have very little leverage over Russia, and they don't give a f*ck of whatever we say as they are obviously a very powerful country. Doesn't mean we can't take positions against them. The 2 warships we have to deliver are a good example. Should we stay firm on our positions and ruin the economy of our ship building sector to make a point? Should we deliver warships to a country that is expanding everywhere around the black sea by force?
