Sure are a lot of people giving up all kinds of interesting information about themselves into databases that will have access to it forever. Just hope yall know the information you give about yourself is being sold to government entities, political candidates and parties, media conglomerates, public authorities and private investigators, corporate interests and business owners, anyone who has something to gain by knowing something specific about you, and who pay top dollar to find out exactly how to most effectively persuade you to send them money, vote for them, what makes you angry, what makes you happy, what makes you sad, what stirs your emotions, what piques your interests, what is most likely to motivate you and exactly how to 'report' your news and how the articles are shaped and what headlines/topics are most likely to get your click, or to buy their products, services, or information on someone/something else. This is exactly the purpose of Facebook and why it's financial potential has left many in awe. This is one of the main ways they get their billions, this is why it's 'Free' Hey, if you are totally cool with that and don't care or think it is or ever will invade your privacy or don't care that you are basically being tricked into giving up information about yourself or you don't find any reason to care, or you don't see any big deal, hey, more power to ya. And really, if you are taking and sharing information about yourself and how a computer program says you are 'a great mother!' or 'a wonderful worker!' or 'a passionate romantic!', and now have a reason to let everyone else know without actually bragging about it yourself. However, I see people all the time saying "wtf, those questions had nothing to do with the quiz!!' and 'that was so dumb I don't get the questions' but oh, they are definitely getting the answers and selling them to the highest bidders!

Hate to break it to you Scotty, but the government sells your data too. Any info you post, any search you engage in, any site you visit, how often you visit, search, post is being collected and sold.
I attended a talk on "Big data equals big business." And not only was the idea that government is collecting and selling your data made very clear, it was encouraged and the suggestion was made that not taking part in it would be highly detrimental to your business. The speaker ignored any privacy concerns that were raised.
That FB is selling "your" data doesn't make it any worse. The data the government sells while not individual specific, paints as clear a picture of you and others like you as you could paint for yourself. Clearer, since people lie in surveys.
My concerns with FB is the ability for social engineering. Make a protest seem valid, or target key figures to invalidate a protest. Alter moods, make a thing seem less of a common problem, target groups with differing news to co-opt a debate, prolong and disinform.

This is why years ago I created Randall Stevens. The "silent" silent partner. He's the guilty one, your Honor. The man with the bank accounts. It's where the filtering process starts. They trace anything, it's gonna lead to him. He's a phantom, an apparition. Second cousin to Harvey the Rabbit. I conjure him out of thin air. He doesn't exist...except on paper.
Oh, you say you can't just make a person up? Sure you can, if you know how the system works, and where the cracks are. It's amazing what you can accomplish by mail. Mr. Stevens has a birth certificate, driver's license, social security number. If they ever trace any of those accounts, they'll wind up chasing a figment of my imagination.

Based on your metadata, the government can tell where you've been, how often you talk to who, your spending habits, your driving habits. And if any of this warrants curiosity, they can find out exactly what you said, to who and when if it was in any way digital.
