As for people telling moderate muslims to condemn the actions of the zealots(a word that could be viewed as anti-semitic, jews having given us some of the first examples of religious extremists, ethnic cleansing, genocide etc).
Moderate muslims should be compelled to condemn the actions of the zealots when
- All americans condemn drone murder
- All germans alive today take responsibility for Hitler
- All jews condemn the IDF(defense force, oppression force is more apt) and it's murder of 17journalists
- All western sheep that bleat about liberty and expression, support palestinians.
- All christians condemn the actions of the "viking crusader" terrorist nut bag.
- Parents start taking responsibility for bad parenting, rather than blaming overworked teachers.

The french identify with Charlie as the victim of a crime by religious fanatism. They dont want to be victims of such crimes or the terror inflicted by them.

And, the cartoonist made fun of Muhamad specially because of the crimes comitted on his name. Not the person really.

A little common sense here, and an analytical mind to learn to discern the facts.

So, a little respect for Charlie's family would be nice, specially when the crime is too recent.

I'm sure you must've also read the bottom of your article, where it says Charlie Hebdo(or his office anyway) was fined for the discharge. So I'd say freedom was protected.
Additionally #Iamcharlie doesn't stand for the guy Charlie anymore, though it might have started out that way, it now stands for freedom of speech. It is simply a representation of an ideal. What's so wrong about lauding such an ideal.
