He's taken over leadership of the Kenaho tribe now, and they are starting a war to take back their land

He hijacked a military transport full of automatic weapons using only his bow and arrow! Now he's taking on the Sheriff's department!

yup, tis the chronic. basically short black haired dude who is the main character just got out of prison the day before, after 15 years locked up, and he stumbled onto a fake identity and a sheriffs badge.

Ok, so I watched the first episode, and while it may have cool characters and what not there's some stuff that really bugs me about this show...

Banshee is an American action-drama television series created by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler originally appearing on the Cinemax network beginning on January 11, 2013. Set in the small town of Banshee in Pennsylvania Amish country, the series' main character is an enigmatic ex-con (Antony Starr), who assumes the identity of Lucas Hood, the town's murdered sheriff, to hide from powerful crime lord Rabbit (Ben Cross).

Take it from someone who's spent decades living in "Pennsylvania Amish country," the show doesn't reflect what it's like here. Contrary to what you see in pop culture there is no Amish Mafia. Our organized crime consists mostly of Hispanic gangs and members of the Pagans motorcycle club. Considering that Banshee is a fictitious town, I could overlook the lack of insight into society here, but there are a few glaring errors that make the show really hard for me to swallow.

A couple right from the go are the way they portray Indians and sheriffs. There are no native American tribes or reservations in Pennsylvania. We have members that live in the state, but their affiliated tribes and lands are located in other states. The Susquehannock tribe lived here a long time ago, and they were bad asses (noted for being irregularly tall cannibal warriors) but the last of them were killed in the 1700s.

As for Sheriffs in PA, they're elected officials here, so the idea that someone could just show up and take the identity of a sherriff who was recently "hired" doesn't work. Sheriffs don't do what they do in the show either, in that they don't enforce laws in the traditional sense. They're primarily responsible for prisoner transfer and duties of the court, which may include things like home evictions etc... They don't really patrol the streets or conduct investigations. That's what municipal and state police are for.

So for the time being I'm watching the show and taking it with a grain of salt, but it's pretty clear the writers didn't do any background research to see what things are like here. Their portrayal of the functions and role of sheriffs in PA really stand out as a glaring error...

A tv show that isn't factual? Weird..... ;)

I have taken offense at a couple shows that have been filmed here in Oregon that committed similar glaring irregularities....pissed me off too....lol

pretty much everything on television is exxagerated. I can see how personally some might have a problem with something the show might portray in regards to where the veiwer actually lives, and that's understandable. Likewise, nobody I know actually talks anything close to like the people in the movie 'Fargo' I don't think that's why I still haven't watched the movie Fargo, but subconsciously it might have something to do with it.

I understand the show Banshee is way over the top and way over the line, and it doesn't surprise me to learn there are no Indian reservations in Pennsylvania or that there really isn't an Amish mafia there. btw I didn't take the badass Amish guy as a mafia type or see his organization like a mafia anyways, and I'm sure if there was really a reservation in Pennsylvania whatever tribe was there would probably raise an issue with and protest the show and Obama/Holder would get all involved....

My problem with the show, originally, was the darkness. The first few episodes I wondered to myself if I should even continue watching it. It bothered me the murderer gets all the hottest poon and I am certain younger people are getting the wrong message (in a way). But I've seen A LOT of crazy and cruel shit in my lifetime and am probably the opposite of sheltered or 'raised in a bubble'.... However I quickly got over it all and ended up watching it, and when Chayton Littlestone became a bigger part of the story I decided to share it. Also I have notices the darkness as well as the gratituous sex scenes have been reduced as the seasons go on

Other problems I shoud have but don't, when it comes to TV, is the 'how come main characters never seems to get shot? even by accident? But I know the answer to that....it makes for bad tv n repeat viewership. I learned something a long time ago with Dances with Wolves, when my dad kept saying over and over again, basically everytime she smiled, how Stands with a Fist shouldn't have perfectly straight and white teeth. At first I was like 'yeah! wtf??' but immediately after I was like 'whatever, it's a movie/tv show' I didn't expect Kevin Costner to have Steve Buscemi stand in as a stunt-mouth

well fargo is an excellent show, I loved it.
I have no problem with bad guys getting away with stuff in movies... and the hero of bashee isn't pictured as a bad guy, just a guy that took a few wrong decisions for love in the past and that made his time in jail. The way he becomes sheriff of Banshee is an accident and you can't blame him. He si just doing what's best to survive.
This show didn't leave me hooked up after the end of season 2. nothing to do with "but there is no indian reserve in pensylvania" or stuff like that. The plot is just not interesting enough to be extended to a third season.
