AfroMaidan

It started with Ferguson, the struggle continues with Baltimore

"We strongly advise everyone to respect the right to peaceful protest in Ukraine" Obama's quote for 2014 Ukrainian revolution.

Another, from yesterday's joint press conference with the Japanese prime minister: "Marauders in Baltimore must be considered criminals. The violence had nothing to do with peaceful protests."

Double standards?

No doubt the whole Ukraine issue was the stupidest mistake EU leaders have made in the past few years.

On that we agree... Both EU and Russia suffered economically, and US got away with no loses to its economy.

How did the EU, or any of its specific constituent members, suffer as a result of the Ukraine crisis?

trade embargoes cause a lot of collateral damage especially if the other side poses embargoes too.

Generally Russia made counter sanctions to European products(mainly from food industry) which were replaced by homemade Russian products or Imported products from other parts of the world.

It's funny. When I click that link, the number one item on the list is this thread!

Well, at least Off-Topics helps push up Conquer Club's search engine placement.

Anyway, mrswdk, it's mainly a tempest in a teapot:
http://www.ecfr.eu/article/commentary_who_pays_for_the_sanctions_on_russia372
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/11/russia-eu-sanctions-west-trade-embargos-cars-ukraine
Europe is expected to lose about 21 billion. Given the fact that the EU's GDP is about 18 trillion, that's about 0.11%. I don't think there will be mass starvation in Brussels or anything.

I think the bigger cost is in long-term development. If the West hadn't tried to push the Ukraine too far, too soon, the Ukraine would have moved closer to the west one small step at a time. By trying to rush the process, we blew it.
