So..been a motorcycle rider for 40 years now......re: trikes....have ridden several traditional harley and honda trikes...hate them. Really scary at speed on roads that arent perfect....hit a pothole with right rear tire once...brings a whole new meaning to High Speed Wobble (a trerrifying occurence that I hope you've NEVER had). Got the chance to ride a Canam Spyder once...LOVED it...completely different, much more stable ride, and always thot I'd like to own one..

..till I saw one of these that my brothers buddy has. A vehicle I would now consider buying new (if I could afford it)....freaking COOL...Polaris Slingshot. Ideally, however, in my spare time (lol), I'd love to build one based on an old flathead V8  ...stock ones are damn awesome tho

Image

See...just switch this bad boy around....did I mention I LOVE flatheads....?

So if the paired tires are on the front instead of the rear, and the single tire int he middle is in the back instead of the front, it tends to be more stable? Honest question, I don't know that much about motorbikes.

Yes, much more stable. With the single tire up front, it acts even more pivot-like since your power is in the rear tire. Take a turn to sharply and bam, you fall over. Honestly, whoever thought of putting the single tire in the front was a fucking moron. It's probably easier to build the forks and stuff, but really they're just terribly unsafe. I'm not really a fan of trikes, but the first time i saw one of those spyders i mentally applauded whoever built it.

Koolbak, i saw one of those slingshots just the other day at a 7 11 in albany, i think, although it had a single seat instead of the double.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, that makes sense, I guessed as much from what I know about physics and such, but I wasn't 100% certain is why I asked.

well my grandma's uncle killed himself on one of these:

Here in Paris, 3 wheel scooters are extremely popular, but the front wheels bend a lot and the bike still allows you to slalom through traffic, it's not almost as large as a car as the one you mention:

also, you can't forget the freakin reliant robin koolback!!!!!!

Corvairs were a rear engine 4 wheeled car made by GM. They were notoriously unsafe even with 4 wheels and thus discontinued.

Further to this, this is the reason that all the quad manufacturers went from trikes to quads and the reason they no longer make trikes.

I think a big part of the traditional trike's terrible feel is that the rear is a solid axle.... really messes with a stable ride..... the new reverse trikes have independent sophisticated suspension in the front.....HUGE freaking diff......

Reliant Robin.....a classic Jeremy Clarkson moment..... laughed my ass off!!

Can't believe theres one of those cool scoots in Albany.....lol

I saw this tv program (can t remember the original title, "car hoarders" maybe?) where this guy had a back yard with like 50 corvairs in junk state. They built 2 corvairs (a minivan and a convertible) selling all the crap to reinvest the money in the restauration. The builders were really disgusted to have to work on corvairs.

Duka, do you snow plow on these some times?

Yeah, I still drive from time to time, although I'm a supervisor now and driving isn't really part of my job any more. But I've always believed that a supervisor should wade into the trenches and do the work every now and then, to make sure he doesn't lose touch with reality, and I practise what I preach.
