Star Wars vs. Christmas

I posted this on my Facebook page. I submit it to this wise forum for additional advice.
Star Wars vs. Christmas
(by Jim)
So I have a SERIOUS problem, and I need my network's help.
I (of course) purchased tickets to the new Star Wars movie on opening weekend. I couldn't go
on Opening Night, Friday Dec. 17, 2015. So I went and got tickets for Dec. 18, in the evening.
(Lux Level obviously, you can't expect me to sit with the proles.)
Now today I found out that my brother scheduled our Annual Family Christmas party on that
same evening.
I'm at a loss as-to what I should do.
Do I skip the party and potentially offend my family?
Do I attend the party, and turn my back on my childhood?
So I'm taking a poll and will do what the group decides. Please comment and let me know what
you think I should do. Majority wins! (Of course I will weigh your votes and comments based on
your intelligence and how much I like you.)
I know, that some readers may consider this a very "First World" problem. Please don't judge
me because I have no perspective. This is deeply important to me, and my feelings matter!
(Please feel free to ask pertinent questions necessary to make an informed vote.)

Who is your favorite Star Wars character?

When I first saw it I identified with Luke more.
Now I would have to say Han Solo... though it's possible I just think he's may favorite.
It's most likely Darth Vader.
Though other contenders are Boba Fett & Darth Maul.
I definitely lean to the Dark Side, though I'm likely Chaotic Good in D&D lingo.
(There's no "Grey Side" in the Star Wars Universe.)

I'm out of my depth.
What do you like more about Darth Vader: his slick threads or that husky voice of his?

I am going to Plead the 5th on this one.

Can you reschedule the tickets for a different date at no charge?

Can you move your family x-mas party to the theatre? Can you fit everyone inside your bag, Mary Poppins' style?

Invite your whole family to Star Wars! Except uncle Harvey. That could get awkward.

No.
That said, the expense was $40... I didn't go 3D, so they were cheaper.
It's not a huge sum, and I probably to gift them to someone I know and feel good about that.
The money is a factor, but not a major one.

No. The party is too large. We typically rent a small hall.
If I had some sort of magic I could possibly accomplish the Mary Poppins' thing, but I don't.

$40 to go see a movie?

Additional info... my wife and children would also attend the party with me.
My wife enjoys it, but has no problem missing it.
My kids look forward to it... to seeing all their cousins and eating junky food and being loud. They told me they are going... so I'd have to either find a way to send them, or deal with the aftermath.

2 tickets
1 for me and 1 for wife
Lux Level... which is a balcony level in the theatre.
https://www.showcasecinemas.com/dining/lux-levelThe picture on the link shows a bar... that's outside the theatre.
The Lux Level Theatre is a balcony located behind general admission seating.
The seats are large well cushioned armchairs, arranged in pairs, with some
separation between the sets. Each seat has a little side table next to it,
or attached... which you can swing in front of you.
They have a full menu from which you can order, including alcoholic drinks.
The food is decent but not excellent, maybe like a fair chain restaurant.
They have seat-side service available throughout the movie.

ITT: jimboston and his wife abandon their kids on Christmas Day to go watch a movie about aliens by themselves.

If by abandon, you mean leave with aunt and cousin for sleepover... which they would prefer probably... then yes this is accurate.
If by Christmas Day, you mean Dec. 18th... then yes this is accurate.
If by movie about aliens, you mean the new Star Wars movie... then yes this is accurate.
(Since Star Wars was a formative experience in my early childhood, then I think about this as a movie about friends... rather than a movie about aliens. I don't know why you have to be so xenophobic.)
If by themselves, you mean in a completely full theatre... then yes this is accurate.

Can you send someone to periscope the movie illegally like a bootleg, and you can watch it on your phone or tablet from the party?

Christmas comes every year. A new Star Wars movie does not.
Of course, you could probably do both... go to the movie and then stop in and pay your respects at the family drudge later, but if logistics preclude that then definitely go to the movie.

This is a good idea, but not practical.
In addition to the illegality and expense associated with this move there is quality concerns.
I didn't go for 3D option, but would still like to see it on a large screen in a theatre.

... but I could just go Saturday. No?
Will someone spoil it for me between Friday night and Saturday evening?

$20 for a ticket? Is that before or after tax? Either way, wtf. That's for non-3D?

Can you get the party close enough to the theatre to pretend you are both places at once through sitcom shenanigans?
