Political Correctness

Now I now that there's a kind of lazy thinking that's gonna jolt a few reflexes into the "PC is bad" automation.

I don't think political correctness is a bad thing. I think it's a way of considering others when you express yourself.

PC, as a term, has become a dirty word, as if it should be a point of pride to attack it, or stand opposed to it.

To my mind, and I take my lead from Stewart Lee on this, it's a kind of institutionalised politeness.

Sym, I agree that supporting nazism is wrong, and I fully support european legislature that outlaws this, but lets face it. This is the internet. There are 10yo's who act like nazis purely to troll others.

It's a matter that applies to all forums, but having said that, I'd be OK with a move if people feel that it's not a matter that applies to CC discussions.

The EU does not outlaw supporting Nazism, though I do think it's outlawed in Germany. Several countries have laws regarding hate-speech, too.

I would say that vis-a-vis my other thread, I'm not asking for him to be outlawed, just for a name-change.

Sigh, Owen, you're the one flogging your dead horse with identikit posts. I was replying to another poster who enquired about the other thread here.

Can we expect more of your spam posts? Big red writing, same YouTube vids, editing other people's posts, etc...

Or are you willing to actually allow a discussion?

Owen allowing, I see a basic code of discourse as essential to a fruitful discussion.

That's a posh way of saying that there should be an agreed set of rules about how we talk to each other if we want to get somewhere

Mostly, I see PC as a basic way of doing that. Where I disagree with people who hate the idea of PC is the idea of what's political.

The P in the PC. I take it to mean that there can be a living debate, while a basic set of decency prevails.

That's my outline, anyway.

Meh, I doubled so that I could address you, and separately bring the thread back on topic.

What's your take on topic?

Hey mrs, do you even vote? I put it like 95% that your views are so opposed to all political parties and conventional societal laws that you don't vote out of a one man/woman? protest.

Spoil your ballot? Like you wipe your ass with it? Or you leave it unrefrigerated?

I'm offended that you can't understand his lack of PC skills. Maybe his culture is completely OK with this type of slang. Now who is being ignorant of another person's culture or use of language? Are you the language Nazi?

You don't have to have British citizenship to vote in British national government elections :D

As a citizen of Canada, you would be entitled to vote in British elections were you to come and live in the UK.
