Erdoğan is trying to get to the airport while his lapdog PM is urging civil unrest from the populace to stop the coup. Will the US support an Erdoğan in exile government or will the US accept the coup?
Also, message sent from Putin to Erdoğan at 4PM est- "Apology not accepted".

Erdogan refused rights to land at Istanbul airport, is seeking asylum in Germany now according to US senior military source. Erdogan urges Turkish citizens to flood into the squares to stop the coup. Ha!

God, Merkel can't seem to do anything to stop these asylum-seekers.

IKR, though this could be a good time for her to kinda rub it in his face. If I recall correctly Erdogan kept shaking down the EU for cash to stop the flow of asylum seekers. Oh the delicious irony....

Haha, As Erdogan flees Turkey he urges all Turks to "resist coup to death". His exact words. What a fucking tool.

(Erodgan's) AK Party, with roots in Islamism, has long had a strained relationship with the military and nationalists in a state that was founded on secularist principles after World War One. The military has a history of mounting coups to defend secular principles, but has not seized power directly since 1980.
I didn't know that, and it's interesting. Though I personally don't know enough about what's going on to have an opinion on the coup one way or the other.

The victorious Turkish Army now controls every TV and radio station in the country, Erdogan had to issue his appeal for aid on Facetime ...

Yeah, this has happened before. The Turkish Army is pretty professional. They won't let crazy civilian leaders run the country into the ground for very long. Erdogan has been pissing off the Turkish Army for four years now. This coup is long time in the coming and was pretty much inevitable given Erdogan's proclivities. Frankly I'm surprised it hadn't happened sooner.

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim has warned there can be no solution to the Syrian conflict or the threat from terrorists while President Bashar Assad remains in charge.

Seems about right. Turkish secular military gets rid of quasi-Sultanate in a quick coup. Not the first time (I think that goes back to Ataturk), and may not be the last either. But the military wants to remain in NATO and keep all current treaties in place.

The Turkish Army is now mopping-up the remnants of the Anti-Russian elements of the previous government -
The Anadolu Agency is reporting that military helicopters have fired shots at the headquarters of the national intelligence agency in Ankara. There are reports that other buildings, including the presidential palace, have also been targeted.

NBC man, or go to twitter. I don't know how to post twitter links. Sheesh! It's all on social media, even Erdogan blabbering about regular Turks to confront tanks in the streets (while he hides like a little bitch).
But I see what I can do.
