The bicycles thread.

Postby 2dimes on Sun Feb 19, 2017 7:02 am

I forget exactly how it came up but either at the beginning of the year or the end of 2016, I ended up talking bikes here with a couple of forum regulars. The subject really needs a thread.

I considered making it a mountain bike thread, because I need something I can ride off the path/road and jump over something if there is a suitable obstacle type surface.

Having said that I respect a person that goes long distances and requires something more refined, or is strictly urban and does their thing with a single gear.

Therefore, "It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you ride."

Welcome.

I have been looking at fat bikes. I have not tried one fearing I would suddenly need to buy one and have it languish in the shed with my other bike.

Someone had told me about the Surly brand and they sounded like the leaders of the field. This morning there was an ad for a brand called, "Borealis." Look good and they are building carbon frames. I will be keeping an eye on them. Even though I don't think I can get 30 years out of one, like I am probably going to get from my Kona.

They are building using "Box One" components. They are fairly new but look like they will potentially become well known if they can survive. Shimano has gone beyond what it takes to be described as dominating that field in my opinion. Should be interesting to see if Box One becomes a common thing or another unknown in the future.

I prefer Nazareth, My White Bicycle.

Found the follow up to the Box One install.
