Turkey will stop teaching evolution in schools

The tyrant from Bosporus, Symmetrys friend, is going one step further at his blunting of the Turkish people.

Turkish schoolchildren will no longer be taught about evolution, a government official has said, in another sign of the conservative direction the country is heading in under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Alpaslan Durmus, the head of curriculum for the ministry of education, said that Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was “controversial” and would be removed from school programmes by 2019.

Turkey will stop teaching evolution in schools, education ministry says

Turkey in EU... not in this lifetime.

Absolutely despicable. Only a matter of time before they become just another Shariah-law nation. Europe would do well to support Kurds and Atatürk-supporters in revolution against that menace. We might even have to prepare for military intervention. Erdogan is a major disaster in waiting.

Military intervention really? Who's going to lead this military invasion?

Unlike the US invading Iraq or Afghanistan, Turkey is of vital geopolitical importance to the entire european continent. It holds the key to the black sea and it is the pass-through hub for any pipelines from the middle east and central asia. Erdogan is increasingly aggressive towards europe and should be counted as a menace.

When you are in a situation where you have to hope a nation will not go completely rogue on you, but the person you are counting on is called Recep Erdogan, you better be wary.

What would Europe intervene with?

I think there's a better chance of Turkey intervening in Europe than Europe intervening in Turkey.

But who would operate it? Under EU labor laws, soldiers don't have to fight after 5 p.m. on weekends unless they first receive 72 hours advance written notice and the battle is approved by the European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. If I were Turkey, I'd just attack at 6 p.m. on a Friday - be in Rome by Monday morning before the European Court of Human Rights could retaliate against Turkey with an injunction sent by certified mail.

Exactly. Which is why europe should prepare and become more hostile towards Turkey. Erdogan wishes nothing but the worst for his western neighbours and would most certainly act if he ever saw an opportunity. The only solution is to fund the revolutionary movements in Turkey, build up an EU-army and remilitarize the continent.

I get called out before Erdogan? What a strange little world Goran lives in. I think he's still angry about being banned for calling for Muslims to be killed.

To be fair to him, he wasn't exactly calm before then either...

Europe has gotten complacent and let its military slide, but that's not a huge problem. It has the technology to build an army, it has the industrial capacity to build an army, and it has a core of professional soldiers that can train an army. Those are the three difficult and time consuming parts of mobilization. The fourth step, introducing conscription and filling the lower ranks, is the quickest and easiest part of the process. Once the political will to fight is there, it will only take a few months to complete step 4.

Shame it has a decision-making process that'd take 10 years to decide what color the berets should be.

10 years are only for the decision, add another 10-20 for the implementation

I expect the EU to have an exploratory task force of 1,000 soldiers ready to go and hang around near the Turkish border by no later than 2064!

You guys can laugh. These criticisms are always levied at democracies. Fact is, when the shit hits the fan, democracies are pretty good at dropping everything and pulling up their socks in a hurry. 1853, 1865, 1914, 1939, 1950. The democracies started out a little dazed and confused, but pulled themselves together soon enough.

If it weren't for the Soviets in WW2 I'm 100% sure we would have communicated in German now ;)

Congratulations to countries with elective representation: the only countries capable of mobilizing an army in times of war!

Say whatever you want, but Dukkie does make a point. It's American industry that won WWII. Without american supplies both the british AND the soviets would have lost. In the Pacific the japanese outmatched the americans before Pearl Harbour, but were soon overtaken because the military-industrial output combined with the superior american numbers were too much to bare.

ps: Turkey doesn't even own its own satelite system. They have to rely on Washington for that.
