So- what did you think of the new series?

Ha ha, Star Trek shows are known by their initials. The original series is TOS, the Next Gen is TNG, Deep Space Nine is DS9. This new one, is STD.

hahahahahaha!

'nuff said.

Deep Space Nine would be DSN, surely, if the shows were known by their initials. And Discovery would just be "D" if the rule is to omit "Star Trek" from the show titles.

I'm not sure your argument really holds up.

Popular rules are rarely consistent. Deep Space Nine was referred to as DS9 in every review I ever read.

Check your local tv listings. It's on CBS I believe. It airs on Sunday nights. 8 or 9 PM eastern time.

You can do that as well. The first two episodes were streamed via CBS All Access but it also aired on Spet 24. Back to back episodes 1&2. Episode 3 airs tomorrow night on CBS. You can probably catch the first two episodes on CBS all access. Although you probably need to be a subscriber to CBS All Access. I watched it on TV last Sunday.

It's on Netflix- in the UK, at least. Still a paid subscription though. Have you considered flying to the UK, finding a place to stay, and opening a Netflix account?

TV series I would like to watch again have been Farscape and Lexx. Those were some odd but fuckin awesome sci fi shows. I watched Star Trek Next Gen a lot but I didn't like the universe of it compared to the likes of Star Wars and the other two series mentioned earlier.

Nextflix and Hulu are letting me down.

I have not watched Star Trek Discovery. I will not watch Star Trek Discovery. I will never watch Star Trek Discovery.

Ironically, just last night, while waiting for edits to my quartet's demo tape to go into effect, I started browsing You Tube. I saw this ...

Not interested in the 5th (6th, whatever) reboot of Star Trek. It peaked long ago with Shatner's astounding line delivery.

...but I did read that the new show is set 10 years before the original series.... so the changes made to Starfleet uniforms make absolutely no sense.

Lots of things make no sense.

Example: What's with the "Enterprise" insignia? The Enterprise insignia was the insignia for the USS Enterprise until an unknown event resulted in it being official for all vessels in Star Fleet, sometime after TOS in honor of Admiral Kirk.

Extra bonus for the fact that they don't even start out on the Discovery, so the insignia is even more stupid.

P.S. What is with the gratuitous alien desert scenes? (Yes I know, everyone loves to film in the desert.)

Agreed.

Though I am a pretty big fan.

I just don't like the idea of all these networks being "pay for play".
I think this is the way the world is headed, and I'm trying to resist.

I can stomach paying for each network or "network family" individually... but only if my cable bill drops proportionally.

One or the other...

High cable bill or individual network selection.

Not both.

I think they're going for their own thing. Trekkies (or Trekkers) are pedantic, even by my standards. Whatever you do is gonna be wrong by some subset of the ST fandom. They had a few nods to the original series- "Hey that's a tribble!", etc. Let's face it though- some fans want to watch Star Trek as if it's all Vulcanlly logical, when the point of Spock in the OS was to show that sometimes logic isn't the best way to travel the stars and encounter alien life.
