The first one from the 70's, which Corman also produced, is one of those great bad movies that he specialises in. Don't go out of your way, but it's a fun watch if you just want to basically see Wacky-Racers with gore, and also what Sylvester Stallone did before he got famous with Rocky.
Yeah, I saw the original when it was in its first run. I haven't yet seen the second one, and I didn't know there was a third, but the first one is one of the great memes of my generation. Even in driving school, every time we'd pass a pedestrian and let him live, we'd all look at each other and say wistfully, "another 70 points you missed."
There were a bunch of remakes in between, which were dark and gritty, and had Jason Statham, till they couldn't afford him, and hired a guy called Luke Goss, who used to be in a British boyband called "Bross" with his twin brother. David Carradine has a cameo in the first one. Wiki says there's a fourth movie in the re-make series, with a new front man.
The first one was ok, but there are better Statham movies for anything you want from a Statham film. The rest are diminishing returns on a concept that needed humour.
