Kamala Harris was born in 1964.

Kwanzaa was established in 1966 but didn't become well-known until the 1980s. Less than 15% of African-Americans celebrate Kwanzaa.

Will this vote be binding?

I voted “No”.

Obviously we can’t know for sure unless she does post some childhood pictures.

Of course most people don’t/won’t care either way… and even if she did have pictures the true diehard ‘conservatives’ would claim they were photoshopped… so it’s better for her to ignore those types of comments.

That said, if false it’s a stupid lie. One (of a type) that many politicians have told/tell. Something they say as a throw away comment to try to reinforce some image or push some agenda.

Saxi’s post isn’t sad.

What I believe is ‘sad’ is the pandering of Kamala Harris.

I think it’s perfectly fine and legit to post the lies or exaggerations of our elected officials.
Even trivial lies and exaggerations.

I have no respect for it… and it makes me wonder what else that person might lie or exaggerate about.

Again… I don’t KNOW Kamala is lying… but if I’d put money on it, even if though Vegas wouldn’t give me good odds.

Exaggerations are fine; I draw the line at lies. I do not approve of posting or sharing things that are known to be lies about anyone.

One could argue that politicians lie, so lies about them are fair game. I disagree. I do not like Kamala Harris, so I am not defending her or her political views; I am objecting to deliberate lies about anyone.

I'll be honest. Maybe it's because of the negative press but I don't like Ms. Harris. She seems to not be doing things the US public want her to try to do. And when questioned she appears to avoid any answers with substance.

I'm not sure it much matters if she celebrated Kwanza as a child.

It seems like a personal thing. It looks like Saxi does not like her trying to use it in an attempt to get people to like her.

Do you feel like video clips of her have been manipulated or edited, to make it look like she is laughing and changing the subject?

A few I watched seemed to show that behavior when asked, why she had not gone to the Texas border, after saying she would go to the Texas border. It really looked like she was trying to avoid even looking into it.

As for the Kwanza debate. It's not really a religious celibration is it? I guess everything can sort of be religion.

No one asked her to make a post about Kwanza… she volunteered it.

She’s half Indian… wouldn’t she be more likely to celebrate Diwali?

Didn’t she spend some of her formative years in Canada? Was Kwanza a thing in Canada in the late 60’s and early 70’?

1976: Kamala Harris moves to Canada to live full-time with her Indian-born mother; her Black father remains in San Francisco and she has no further contact with him - media have since reported she's "estranged" from him and Harris herself has said they are "not close"

1982: Kamala Harris turns 18

1983: Kwanzaa starts to achieve more widespread appeal, though at its height never surpasses celebration by ~15% of the Black population

So, the scenarios in which Kamala Harris remembers "celebrations" (plural) of Kwanzaa before she turned 18 mean either:

- She celebrated Kwanzaa between 1966 and 1976 and her family, despite virtually no evidence of radical political activity, was among the very first celebrants of Kwanzaa when its observance was limited to maybe a few hundred militants, and no one took any family photographs despite this being so important that it was among her "favorite childhood memories," or,
- She celebrated Kwanzaa after 1976 ... while in Canada ... while being raised full-time in an Indian household (when it was still a virtually unheard-of holiday), and no one took any family photographs despite this being so important that it was among her "favorite childhood memories,"

If she's willing to lie about things that are easily disproved, imagine the lies she's willing to make about things that aren't easily disproved.

To some degree I do care. It's obviously a nonsensical claim. As lies go, I think it's harmless and falls into the "little white lies" category. I'm bothered less by the dishonesty and more by the fact that it's a stupid careless mistake. She should have known the enemy would make hay out of something so easily disproven.

Jerry Brown is a great political leader Saxi, but I don't think you should compromise your morals just for him.
