I'm going to wait for Balzac Bill's verdict.

KoolBak will likely be relying on the historically slightly more accurate report out of Portland.

My wife reported that Homeless Hank poked his head out of his shanty (that's erected next to her downtown building in Portland) and promptly puked in the road.

As I understand it, that's 6 more weeks of winter...

I had the opportunity to engage in a conversation with a woman who looked like a "classic liberal" based on her appearance and dress. My choice was to sit at her table and get close to the TV to see the weather forecast for the day rather than sit far away and not with her at a small table at a motel breakfast buffet, PRE-COVID, of course. (I think it was 2016. FULL Disclosure, my memory said it was 2017.) I was there for the FIRST ever Football game by Virginia Tech at Notre Dame Stadium and I wanted to be there. WE WON..! I flew there with my son and wife; my youngest brother, also a VT graduate and fan, went there too and we met at a local Hampton Inn.

My conversation with her, based on news reports on the TV (maybe it was CNN, along with weather reports), shifted to politics and the news. I made another decision to engage her rather than ignore her and/or her comment. We started to discuss...Poverty and economics. I learned that she is an engineer who runs a small business in.................yes, you guessed it, Portland. She had the classic liberal responses (as I judge such comments. They were so classic and mundane that I forgot most of her specific responses and comments.) She asked something like "did we have to wait for the 'tide to rise' until the poor is helped economically?" My response was that we do not know how to lift the poor out of poverty without helping the overall Economy. This is based on the phrase a "rising tide lifts all boats." I also am conjecturing that government assistance does not help end poverty; it increases dependence on those "gob-ment" handouts instead, in many cases. There are, of course, some exceptions.

I then asked her, a University of Notre Dame graduate, how the Bible addresses poverty. She did not know. I talked about how the poor "gleaned the fields" for their food. They worked to obtain their food and did not sit around waiting for a government check to be delivered to them. My comment was met with.........................silence from her to my statement. I think she told me shortly after that she had to leave to get ready for the game. The game was several hours away. I did not leave for Notre Dame stadium until at least one hour later, as I recall.

Gleaning in the Bible
The biblical concept of gleaning is first found in Leviticus 19:9. When wheat and barley fields were ready to be harvested, some of the grain was allowed to fall to the ground so that the poor could gather what they needed for provision. Israelite law also required that the corners of the fields were not to be harvested. The purpose of the law was to feed the poor, the orphans, the widows, and the foreigners. It served as a safety net and resource.

Gleaning the fields are central to the story of Ruth found in the Old Testament. Ruth was a Moabite, widowed daughter-in-law of the widow Naomi. To prevent starvation, Ruth gleaned the fields of Boaz: “And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, ‘Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.’ Naomi said to her, ‘Go ahead, my daughter,’” (Ruth 2:2).

Notre Dame blows 17-point lead to seal first losing season since 2007

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Virginia Tech proved it can overcome a slow start and turnovers.

The Hokies fell behind by 17 points early and trailed by 10 to start the fourth quarter, but Jerod Evans guided them to a touchdown and a pair of field goals by Joey Slye in the quarter to beat Notre Dame 34-31 Saturday.

On a side note, I find it a bit odd that ESPN archives a report on the game by AP and not by ESPN. The wire service likely had a good and concise written game summary, hence they saved that.

So you figure Hank may have had a tummy ache caused by a motel breakfast buffet?

You should be in Yellowknife or Nome. I couldn't see any out the kitchen window but the Aurora activity is being reported as 7/10 or medium.

Synopsis: JP4 meets a woman concerned about helping those less fortunate. Brushes her off with some biblical mumbo jumbo about how the poor should go eat shit.

Someone asks me a bible related question (and I actually speak to them), I just reply "Nice rhetoric!" as the Bible is a work of fiction

And THAT pearl of wisdom is straight out of the mouth of a Catholic (father) professor at a private Catholic college. Lol

As to Portland (and surrounding and up to and past Vancouver - call it 50-100 square miles) it's anarchy. An by the looks of the empty maddog 2020 bottles and spent syringes, I'd say it wasn't what ole Hank ATE.

Have you tried MadDog 357? Its super sweet at first but the aftermath is pretty damn bad.

It's how Portland is.

Maybe not currently. You could probably just eat some dog shit and get the same effect.

f*ck Kate Brown. And Inslee

Total saxi level obfuscation, Duk. AND it is that BAD.

She NEVER did mention a bit of work or effort or charity she ever did to help the poor. Is she really "concerned about helping those less fortunate"..? I guess her paying taxes in Portland was the level of her concern. She had NO response to my alleged mumbo jumbo.

Have a great day.

Many cities have parts of town like this… Boston had a tent city too (I say had because I understand they’ve been dismantling it and relocating the people to shelters). Not surprisingly, the Tent City in Boston was located right near the largest methadone clinic in the area.

I doubt there are occupied tent shanty town areas in Winnipeg right now. It was -48C there yesterday.
