I am in full agreement with you myself. The major complaints and whining about the original map were nearly all geographical and I think that needs to be #1 to everything else.

Not everyone is taking that view, which is why I think we need a poll. But gimil is gone for another 6 days and I don't want to start one without his consent as he may have a reasonable argument against it.

Claiming the chat folks rig polls is not reasonable, so lets not start that again.

The names are the biggest priority to get right,

teh reason i wish not to have a poll is becasue it will resolove nothing. I personally agree that double names are not ideal BUT there is no alternative. Having a poll asking if it should be a double name will not give me an alternative name.

As for the chat regulars comment, to many people have looked to far into it. If you have a problem PM me.

well, i dont care if the names or w/e are changed around. i just really liked the graphics- they were simple, but eye pleasing. i really liked the bright/bold colours.
gimils graphics are very nice. its just that the original graphics are the only ones like them in the whole slew of maps.

edit: the new graphics are too similar to ireland.

the isle of mull has somehow managed to stick to the south-west corner of strathclyde, as has anglesey to the north-west corner of gwynedd.

mull and anglesey still need to be unstuck from great britain.

Dumfries & Galloway
Why not make it just be called "Dumfries". That would clear up the fuss about it being too long.

Lothian & Borders
This could just be called "Lothian" Nobody would mix up "Borders" with this territory and it would clear double names.

The more I think about it, the more I think that you should try swapping the colours to keep them vaguely similar to the original.

Ireland is green already, so that's fine, but North England should be pinkish, Wales should be yellowish etc...

The colors are done as best they can to match there flag colors (except england) I personally would like to keep scotland blue and wales red

we're struggling a bit for space. do u think the map will still look reasonable if we rotate it clockwise by 20 degrees or so, so that the southern coastline of great britain is almost horizontal?

this will release some space at the bottom left, which we can use for a key to territories with abbreviated names, such as gloucs and oxon. these latter two names do not roll off the tongue, as no-one ever says them like that when speaking. calling them Gl and Ox on the map itself, with a key on the bottom left giving their full names, is more natural. the proposed key can also include additional abbreviations for small territories, such as london, or those with long names, like dumfries and galloway.

there is absolutely no way im rotating the map for the sake of a key. There is more than enought space in the bottom left to put one in

actually this is a bad idea to do it for that reason. the whole point is that the old map had problems with names and borders. So, this new version embraced doing things closer to real life. Having the colours resemble the flags fits in quite well with this theme.
