Depends on which you are good at. Winning them is the main reason to get a lot of points ;)

I like 4 player, esc cards on the 2.1 map. Its fun and many play the game as if the cards are going to help them. Its usually decided long before the cards are worth much.

Solid 1v1 can get you pretty far. Team games will also get you up there, but the only way to maintain major and up is beating top notch teams or play 6 players+ esc games.

Just target those way ahead of you on the points board. My 'teams' nearly always do this...couple of examples, the QAs (a triples team I run) have played 16, won 9, but are showing a 167 point profit. The DQs (a doubles team I run) have played 25, won 12 but are showing a 100 point+ profit.

If you are patient then the points keep just ticking over, most seem to try to rush in the pursuit of points, I did. To be a board leader dig in for the long haul.

I did not vote, because I think, in the long term, none of those really make it.

The only way up is to win. Even in term, you get to a point when you need to win the game or you lose points. There are no secrets in the settings. Just find one you're good at and stick to it.

Although I have a long ways to the "top", three player games have been my key to gaining what points I have.

All depends on what rank you are Risk. The "best" players are probably only winning 4 out of 10 games. Average say, 75 points net win, 300 points? The loss of 6 games, losing say 25 points a game net loss, 150. Out of 10 games, you win 150 ish or so. (Rough estimate of course). Keep in mind, the best players are winning 4 or 5 out of 10 games. Most average people cant win consistently enough to net gain a lot of points. Feel free to comment someone who plays 8 person games on a regular basis. Am I off track here?

it all depends on what you're good at.

pick a map and settings you know perfectly and then chose one of the following 2 paths:

1. always play people that are better ranked than you. this way you improve your strategy and gain big points.

2. play the crappiest players and the noobest noobs. you won't improve your strategy but if you play enough games you will rack up some nice points.

I play the hard-to-understand maps like AoM and AoR: Magic with as many players as possible. The only people who join are other players who are very good at the map so I have a challenge or new players who either aren't very good or are deadbeats. The deadbeats increase my chance of winning so I get a pretty good win rate.

It's always foggy, unlimited and no cards, by the way.

open up 3 accounts and use all 3 in triples play as your team. if you lose a game, set up 1 vs 1's between your accounts to gain the points back. im sure nobody thought of this yet

Where's team game voting option?

on thie average, highly successful singles players earn 2-3 points per game and that's at 40%ish win rate. If you are successful in doubles, your average PPG will be upwards of 3-5 at 65%ish win rate. Doubles are the best way to go I would assume..... these are just rough estimates... i haven't actually done the math.

Some singles players offset their singles' losses by throwing doubles/triples in their overall lineup of games. Whereas some team players will play a small percentage of singles to give their scores a boost with a win.

Play lots of games and win. No big secret. The "secret" is in HOW to win. But that really isn't a secret, either. It takes skill .. and luck. Learn the maps, play and gain skill, then hope for luck.

But I'd say that if you worry too much about points, you will get frustrated. There will usually be someone better than you "out there" and luck definitely plays its part. You either accept that and ejoy the game or you beat your head against the wall.

(and I include complaints about the dice in that "head-beating")

create 20 8-player games on a map most people hardly play. it won't take long for it to get to the front page. when it is it will fill with n00bs, most of whom will deadbeat. you only need a win rate approximate to your % of the players left for you to advance quickly.

scenario: create 20 8-player assassin circus maximus games. average of 4 deadbeats per game. win approx. 1/4 of them. easy points gained.

the only drawbacks are: that you are constantly accused of cheating by creating multis & deadbeating them and the first 3 rounds take a long time to get through.

Pick the smaller maps so you have faster turn over... it's not hard to get net gain, even playing below 40% (like someone else said above), but it's a leverage issue. If your freemium, your particularly constrained so getting bogged down in 4 games on big maps with 4-6 players is a deal breaker for points (event if you win and walk away with 100 pts, it's like 10 days of playing singles where you could of made 200, assuming your good at singles and don't play too many low score opponents on fast maps with "luck" heavy settings.)

However, you have to deal with more complex strategic issues in teh 4-6 player games, so choose your poison...

Terminator games have been working for me so far. That and 1 vs. 1 on Feudal War, and the AoR maps. Those are too much fun.
