missed turn options?

Postby James Julius on Tue Mar 25, 2008 9:18 am

If a player in a casual game announces in advance that he has to miss a turn, can it be arranged for a disinterested third party to move for that player?

If a player in a casual game announces in advance that he has to miss a turn, it seems the next best ( or best ) option would be for all participants to agree to skip a turn as well, to maintain the integrity of the game. But what if they do not all agree?

Even good players must miss a turn sometimes. What can be done to salvage these situations?

When a 3rd party takes a turn for a player it is called "Account Sitting", which does not violate rules when it is not taken advantage of, i.e. "Hijacking accounts".

However, this doesn't mean a player can't get in trouble for it, things can happen, like what recently happened with a player's account being "Taken care of" by his brother; who decided it would be funny to destroy all of his points (2000+). Be careful with who you choose.

I have had a person sit my account, my friend (dragonfly) will take my turns periodically if I can't, and I his. Just remember, it could technically be understood as an unwritten rule (Seen here: Rules) if something happens... You will also most likely be held responsible.

So how does that work physically?

Your "sitter" logs on as you from a different computer and takes your turn?

So then you are not held guilty of two guys using the same account as long as it is for this purpose?

Yes. As long as it's short-term babysitting (i.e. few days to a week), then we can tell the difference between an account babysitter and a multi. However, people in the same house/location/IP should avoid taking each others turns though, as then they look to have two accounts.

Thank you PaperPlunger and Wicked.

One dumb follow-up question please. If the other option I mentioned was agreed upon, and everyone missed a move voluntarily, that would not cancel the game or anything, right?

The only rule about missed turns is three misses and you're out. Correct?

Thanks again.

Actually I think he may have a point. Just miss your turn, no reason to make everyone miss a turn or hold up the game even more. Afterall, in many cases if you had to go on a vacation soon, you shouldn't have joined/started a game.

But yes, the 3 turns, I think, is the only turn rule.

You're not following. This thread is about conducting games without missed turns.

Anyway, already got the information I wanted.

Thanks everyone. Good luck.
